Callum Shinkwin’s major championship debut has come to a disappointing end after he missed the cut at The Open.

The 23-year-old Bushey golfer missed the four-over-par cut to make the weekend's play after shooting a five-over-par 76 yesterday to end his tournament on a score of seven-over-par at Royal Troon.

On a day which started wet before the wind started to get up, the Moor Park professional began the day on two-over but immediately pulled one shot back with a birdie on the first.

A sequence of bogey, birdie, bogey through holes three to five saw Shinkwin slip back to two-over before further dropped shots on eight and nine saw him go out in 38.

Shinkwin, who had recorded top-ten finishes in his previous two European Tour events, also dropped shots on 11 and 14 before he moved back to five-over with a third birdie of his round on 16. But a double bogey five on 17 ended his tournament on seven-over.

Shinkwin’s Moor Park club-mate Matt Wallace is in action this weekend though, after safely making the cut at the Challenge de Espana on the Challenge Tour.

The 26-year-old Pinner-based professional, who has won a historic five consecutive events on the Alps Tour this season, followed up a four-under-par round of 67 with a two-under 69 yesterday to lie on six-under-par, ten shots behind current leader Adrien Saddier.
