Oxhey Jets advanced beyond the FA Cup extra preliminary round for the first time in three years with a 2-0 win over Burnham on Saturday.

Josh Noyes gave them the lead just before half-time with a smartly taken finish as Jets made the most of their first-half dominance.

They came out looking to put the game to bed after the interval and had done just that within a minute of the restart.

Jets found the net in sublime fashion as well, as a sweeping passing move culminated in Adam Lowton delicately chipping over the Burnham keeper.

The win earns them an away tie against Kempston Rovers in the next round on Saturday, August 20.

Oxhey were unable to carry their cup form into Tuesday night’s opening Spartan South Midlands Premier Division clash with Welwyn Garden City as they went down 3-2.

They were left ruing two refereeing decisions as a questionable free-kick saw Welwyn take the lead.

Jets will feel they could have got more from the game and many of their number believed Leigh Stevens had a legitimate goal ruled out.

Stevens flicked home a header from close range but was adjudged to have fouled the Welwyn keeper in the process.

The visitors kicked on from there and two more goals left Jets facing an uphill challenge to get anything out of the game.

They rallied well though, and Luke Wells’ calm finish gave them hope in the 78th minute.

Lowton pounced nine minutes later to set up a barnstorming conclusion to the match as Jets searched for a leveller which never materialised.
