Matt Wallace will return to competitive action on Thursday after securing an invite to the first Challenge Tour event to be staged in this country since 2012.

The Moor Park golfer, who created Alps Tour history this year by winning the last five events he competed in and secured a career-high share of ninth place at last month's Challenge de Espana, will be playing in the Bridgestone Challenge at Heythorp Park Resort in Oxfordshire.

The 26-year-old, who was on holiday when he received the call, said: “I am really looking forward to getting back to work and playing in a tournament as a pro in my home country.

“I would be grateful for all the support possible and please feel free to come and watch on tournament days.”

Moor Park chief executive David Cook added: “We are thrilled for this further opportunity for Matt. He is going from strength to strength and the club is enjoying watching his success, along with that of our other professional, Callum Shinkwin, who is playing well at the Czech Masters at the moment.”

Those comments came after the Bushey-based professional had shot a second round of 68 to recover from a three-over-par opening round of 75 at the Albatross Park Resort in Prague.

The 23-year-old continued his forward progress with a two-under-par third round of 70 on Saturday, but he let those two gained shots slip yesterday when a final round of 74 saw Shinkwin slip back to one-under-par and finish in a share of 51st place.
