Berkhamsted have moved up to third in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division and sent London Tigers to the bottom of the table after beating them 5-0 on Saturday.

It was the metalwork that saved the Tigers twice in the first half as the Comrades’ Adam Mead struck the crossbar and Scott Bonner did likewise as the home side pressed for the opening goal.

The breakthrough came when a defender tripped Ikem Odeh inside the penalty area at the canal end and Mead netted from the spot kick.

A memorable second followed 10 minutes into the second half when Alex Campana waltzed through the defence, beating five men in a mazy run before firing into the net.

The introduction of Ashton Campbell demoralised the visitors further as he struck two goals in a 10-minute spell with a close-range volley, quickly followed by a second from outside the box.

Berkhamsted continued to press and only some fine saves from Ini Amagebe kept the score down, but the firth arrived when the keeper was booked for bringing an opponent down and top scorer Mead curled the free kick over the wall and into the net.

Tring Athletic beat Leighton Town 3-2 after a superb comeback to seal their second league win of the season.

With just over half an hour played Town must have been enjoying their first taste of the Grass Roots Stadium, having scored two goals in relatively quick succession.

Leighton were rewarded for their positive start in the 16th minute when winger Victor Osuba sped down the left and pulled the ball back intelligently for Jordan Davis, who converted with a cool finish.

The lead was doubled 12 minutes later when striker Matt Bateman fired past home keeper Jack Hopwood.

Ryan Sturges had the chance to reduce the deficit when he latched onto a through ball but his lob over the keeper drifted wide of the empty net.

But Sturges did reduce the deficit with a superb volley in the 37th minute after a good build-up involving George Brinkman and Jack Seaton.

Tring now had their tails up and they were level by the break when Seaton crossed for Dave O’Connor to smash in the leveller.

Worse was to follow for Leighton 10 minutes into the second half when a shot from Brinkman fell to Chris Vardy, who calmly slotted home.

Town refused to lie down, though, and Hopwood was called into action to push away shots from Jordan Davis and Kai Gardner and there were some anxious moments for the home supports as the visitors won some late corners.

Leverstock Green lost 2-1 to Cockfosters after they produced a disappointing display following their first league win the previous week.

Cockfosters took the lead in the 22nd minute as Carl Resch clipped a low shot through a crowd of players into the net.

Jerry Maja was denied when Joel Williams blocked his shot, and on 52 minutes a header from Melford-Rowe was cleared off the line by Jonathan Lacey.

Cockfosters added their second goal on 66 minutes as a corner dropped down to Maja, who again shot through a crowd of players with little challenge.

For the last five minutes Cockfosters played with 10 men, having suffered an injury after using all three substitutes.

Green pulled a goal back in stoppage time as Lewis Bowers hit a shot which went in off the far post.
