Helen Freeman will look to create another slice of history in tomorrow's semi-final against the USA as she co-captain's the first British female wheelchair basketball team to reach this stage at a Paralympic games.

The Watford basketball player is at her third Paralympics and has five European Bronze medals to her name.

The 26-year-old was also statisically the 2015 European Championships most efficient player.

And the former Rickmansworth School pupil along with her teammates are currently the most successful GB women's team to date as they were ranked fifth at the 2014 World Championships.

The GB 12 are also the youngest female team to compete at the Games with 16-year-old Katie Morrow the youngest player across the women’s wheelchair basketball competition, and a team average age of 22.

The team stormed their quarter final against China dominating the game to bring home a victory of 57-38.

The win, the ultimate 18th birthday present for GB’s Charlotte Moore, sees the team continuing their winning streak for a fourth consecutive game.

Whilst the ParalympicGB women gather momentum towards a possible Paralympic medal, they are also proving a hit with the crowd.

Delivering what can only be described as the ultimate Paralympic spectator experience, the women are showcasing to the world that Wheelchair Basketball is a physical, fast paced and exciting sport to watch in Rio.

Debutantes on the court against China were instrumental in catapulting the game to its ultimate win, which saw Coyotes player 17-year-old Joy Haizelden demonstrate a playing maturity beyond her years. Also Ayr native Robyn Love proved a safe pair of hands making her presence felt in the GB defence.

Watching all the Games from the Rio side lines was Paul Hudson, British Wheelchair Basketball Chairman and former coach of the women’s Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball teams in Atlanta and Sydney.

Delighted by the evening's win over China Paul commented about their medal prospects in the Games: “Watching the women in action on court it is apparent how focused they are on achieving a medal at these Games.

“These women have a belief in themselves and their ability as a team. The team has already exceeded their UK Sport target at these games and are driven to deliver the best Games in history for a female GB wheelchair basketball team.”
