Oxhey Jets suffered a setback after they lost 2-0 to Cockfosters in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

Manager Lee Stedman had to replace three-quarters of his side due to holidays which claimed a group of four regular starters.

Goals from Jeremiah Maja and Meshach Williams were enough to seal the victory for the home side.

Robin Staiger, who was making his debut for Jets in goal, proved to be their most effective player as he gained the man-of-the-match accolade but it was their only reward.

Maja’s goal came in the 39th minute as he calmly slotted the ball home, but their opponents defended well to keep the score at 1-0 at half-time In the first 20 minutes of the second half, the Jets had the majority of possession and Luke Wells looked as though he might the one to steal a point.

His best chance of the game came when he broke away from the pack but the Fosters keeper was quickly off his line and smothered him out.

Jets keeper Staiger provided the day’s heroics as he dived full length after a penalty was awarded against Jack Robertson for handball.

But their joy was short lived as Williams slotted an almost identical to the first goal to make the points safe in the 89th minute.

Next up for Oxhey is a home clash with St Margaretsbury on Saturday.

Sun Sports were frustrated following their 4-4 draw with Wembley at the weekend after they were leading 4-1 into the second half.

Nathan Pooley, a Chris Blunden double and Gary Wallace goal accounted for Sun’s quartet of goals but Wembley staged a fine comeback after they had gtone into the break 3-1 down.

They scored three in 25 minutes to ensure they shared the spoils and Sun now sit 16th in the league and will face top-of-the-table London Colney this weekend.

Sun’s Tuesday night game with Leighton Town was cancelled due to Town’s 3-3 draw with Bracknell Town in the FA Vase.

Tring Athletic progressed in the FA Vase against Spelthorne Sports thanks to two second-half goals from Chris Vardy in Tuesday’s replay and will now play Winslow United in the next round after Saturday’s first tie finished goalless.

Vardy calmly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home as the defenders tried to block his shot for his first in the 67th minute.

His second came in the 84th minute as George Brinkham’s cross was nicely met by Vardy, unmarked in the six-yard box and he headed home to ensure his side’s progress.

Vardy’s double came after he was denied a clear opportunity at the weekend against Spelthorne as the referee blew for a foul on the keeper and the Tring player was subsequently booked after he was through on goal.

Tring are at home to Biggleswade United as they return to league on Saturday.

Leverstock Green had mixed emotions as they were unable to continue their fine run of form after Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Berkhamsted was followed by a 3-1 defeat to Wembley.

Wayne Walters, Yassine Fehmi-Gil and Jermaine Heron all scored before Green could get on the scoreboard as Johnathan Lacey gained a consolation in the 78th minute.

Wembley had attacked from the off and Walters opened the scoring as he headed home at the near post.

Karl Davidson headed over the bar with just over a minute played in the second half and Jordan Gilbert’s effort was parried by the keeper before Ross Adams shot the rebound over the empty net as Green spurned chances to get back on terms.

Leverstock were duly punished for their profligacy as Fehmi-Gil scored a simple tap in, in the 59th minute and 13 minutes later Wembley added a third through Heron.

In their 2-2 derby draw against the Comrades, Lacey once again scored along with Davidson, but Berkhamsted secured a point through George Carbery and Ashley Lewis.

The Comrades followed this up with a 2-1 win over Hoddesdon Town thanks to goals from Lewis and Ashley Campbell.

The Comrades play Edgware Town on Saturday in the new club’s first competitive game on an artificial pitch before meeting Wodson Park in the Challenge Trophy.
