Tring Athletic await a trip to Suffolk to face Walsham Le Willows in the first round of the FA Vase after defeating Winslow United 4-1 on Saturday.

A brace from birthday boy Sam Joliffe and goals from Ryan Sturges and Chris Vardy settled what was a sterling fight between the sides in Tring’s favour.

Winslow led 1-0 at half-time after having the first chance of the game through skipper Ryan Freshwater as his header produced a good save from keeper Jack Hopwood.

Grant Karawacinksi scored in the 31st minute after he was played in by Winslow’s leading scorer Drew Mitton.

But the Spartan South Midlands League side stepped up their game in the second half and the equaliser came 10 minutes in as Joliffe rammed the ball past the keeper from a Luke Dunstan assist.

Five minutes later, Tring took the lead as Vardy netted a half-volley from an acute angle.

After a commanding performance from the away side, Joliffe got his second late on in the second half through a penalty after Adam Scotcher was pulled back in the box.

But the goals did not end there as three minutes into added time Sturges fired home a good shot from 25 yards to put the game to bed.

Tring were back in league action on Tuesday as they faced Cockfosters away from home.

The game ended goalless and Tring now sit 10th in the Premier Division.

Leverstock Green broke a long awaited five-year run of not winning a game in the FA Vase after they overcame Harefield United 4-0 at the weekend.

Goals from George Biggadike, Johnathan Lacey, Lewis Bowers and Brima Johnson sent the away side through to the first round in style.

Leverstock started well and had a number of chances to take an early lead, with Curtis Donaldson’s rasping shot deflected wide in the 13th minute.

But they got their rewards in the 35th minute as Biggadike exchanged passes with Donaldson before hitting a shot from a narrow angle past Jacob Ballheimer for the opening goal.

Lacey doubled Green’s lead early in the second half as he showed composure to slide the ball under the diving Ballheimer to extend his scoring streak to five games.

Bowers added a third a minute later as the keeper reached out an arm to palm away Donaldson’s shot, but was helpless as the forward rolled the ball home from the edge of the box.

Green killed the game in the 57th minute as Johnson ran past several defenders before slotting in the fourth. Green travel to Thrapston Town in the next round.

Berkhamsted drew 1-1 with another fellow Premier Division promotion chasers Welwyn Garden City on Saturday.

The Comrades had a chance to open the scoring but their opponents defended with determination, twice kicking the ball off their own goal line.

But 10 minutes before the interval Berkhamsted broke the deadlock as Alex Campana was brought down in the box to earn a penalty. Ollie Leslie saved it but Ashton Campbell converted the rebound to five the home side the lead.

Their advantage was short-lived though, as Lee Armitt equalised eight minutes later from close range as the Comrades were appealing for offside.

Both sides tried hard to find the winner in the second half as a misplaced back pass from Jack Stevens almost let City in but the danger was cleared.
