Oxhey Jets dug deep and battled to a rare 2-1 away win at Hoddesdon Town in the Herts Charity Shield quarter-final to secure a place in the next round to face Berkhamsted.

Jets fell a goal down as Hoddesdon took advantage of some slag defending and Connor Scully tapped into the open net.

The away side responded instantly as in the eighth minute Remi Gill scored from a rebound when his curling effort went in at the back post.

Jets’ second came deep into stoppage time through Sim Armstrong, whose shot curled into the top corner for a dramatic winner.

Sun Sports lost 2-0 to Cockfosters and fell to 18th in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

Goals from Ioannis Varouxakis and Jeremiah Maja were enough for Fosters to take the win and for Sports to fall to their third loss of the season.

This result followed their 1-1 draw with Hoddesdon when Andy Brennan was on target.

Frazer John scored the opening goal, inspiring Sports to pick up their game as Brennan’s late equaliser secured them a share of the spoils when he nipped in to steer the ball into the net.

Leverstock Green’s first-team manager Paul Hunt resigned from his duties on Wednesday with immediate effect following two defeats on the bounce to London Tigers and Biggleswade United.

The news came after a late goal from Tigers, who gained their first league win of the season and in doing so cost Hunt his job.

Green had plenty of chances but failed to capitalise on their opportunities as Curtis Donaldson, Lewis Bowers, Louis Smith and Shane Wood could not get themselves on the scoresheet.

And this came back to haunt them as the Tigers managed to get the break they wanted when Ali Soussi was able to pick his shot as the ball flew into the net past Liam Jahn.

Last weekend, Green took an early 2-0 lead against Biggleswade before falling to a surprise comeback, which the visitors won 3-2.

It was a dream start for Leverstock, and they took the lead in the 10th minute through Donaldson before Brima Johnson doubled their lead five minutes later.

But Wade quickly got back into the match through Charlie Joy and the Green side held out to break with their 2-1 lead.

The turning point of the game came in the 78th minute when George Biggadike was penalised and a free-kick was awarded just outside the box.

Nick Elliot fired it home with Jahn left motionless as the ball flew in for the equaliser.

Three minutes later the comeback was complete as Hoy crossed into the box and Josh Sturniolo side-footed the ball home from six yards.

Scott Dash will be in charge on Saturday as they host Sun Sports, with kick-off at 3pm.

It was better news for Tring Athletic, ahead of the semi-final of the Herts Charity Shield, as they defeated Colney Heath 4-3 on penalties in the last eight.

The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and Tring had to rely on spot kicks to send them through into the next round.

Callum Gregory scored the first goal, in what was the 19-year-old’s first appearance.

There was a dramatic start to the game as Colney defender was sent off for bringing down Chris Vardy in what was deemed a goal scoring opportunity.

There were numerous chances in the opening minutes of the game, and Tommy Twelves had a goal disallowed while Ryan Surges fired a shot over the bar.

The home side were dealt another blow as Jason Holmes went off injured on the half hour mark and was replaced by Craig Clark.

It was Colney who scored the first as Trey Charles curled a fine shot into the far corner after a swift counter attack.

Gregory equalised and neither side could find the winner in the second despite some good chances.

Goalkeeper Mark Richardson was the hero as his two penalty saves sent Tring into the semi-finals to face London Colney or St Margaretsbury.

In league action Tring Athletic beat Stotfold 3-2 as in the third minute George Brinkman curled home a free-kick from just outside the box.

But the home side soon equalised thanks to Ben L’Honore, who finished smartly after being set up by fellow forward Daniel Bond.

Former Berkhamsted player George Carbery put Tring into the lead before Drew Cardines levelled the scoring.

But it was Vardy who scored the winner via a deflection to send Tring up to seventh in the table with games in hand on their rivals.

Berkhamsted went through to the semi-final after they beat Welwyn Garden City 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 draw.
