Matt Wallace has achieved his best career result on the Challenge Tour by finishing in a tie for fourth at the Terre dei Consoli Open in Italy.
The Moor Park Golf Club professional finished alongside five other players on nine-under-par, four adrift of Sweden’s Johan Edfors, who won the title by three shots on 13-under.
The 26-year-old was at the right end of the leaderboard from the outset following an opening four-under-par round of 68.
Scores of 72 and 69 at the Monterosi course kept Wallace in contention and although he bogeyed the second today, birdies on eight, 11 and 15 ensured the Pinner-based player bettered the share of ninth he achieved at the Fred Olsen Challenge de Espana in July.
Having won a historic five consecutive Alps Tour competitions this year and not finished outside the top four in the eight events he’s played, the result keeps Wallace in fine shape ahead of the tour’s grand final in Italy later this month before he bids to win a European Tour card at final qualifying in November.
