Herts FA Senior Cup Second Round

It was yet another productive morning for the league’s teams in the Herts County Cup with all of the teams in action successful.

The biggest result goes to Rifle Volunteer who knocked out AC Enfield 3-0 on penalties after a 2-2 draw after extra-time. The remarkable fact is that they did it with only ten players, and had to come from behind twice.

They trailed to an early goal, but the expected floodgates didn’t open and it seemed to lift the Volunteer but they still seemed to heading out when Andy Lomas levelled from a rebound after seeing his initial penalty saved.

Once again the ten men fell behind in the extra 30 minutes, but five minutes into the second period of extra-time they levelled for a second time thanks to an own goal – sending the tie into a penalty shoot-out.

Volunteer keeper Tony Cornick was the star of the shoot-out as he saved all three of the Enfield penalties, with their own spot-kicks despatched by Gary Froy, Myles Hall and Nick Kerley to set up an away trip to St Albans to face Nicholas Breakspear Old Boys for a place in the quarter-final.

The all WSL tie between Reed Rangers and Chorleywood Club saw Rangers win 2-1, Dominic David and Jamie Speer with the Reed goals and Nick Holden replying for the visitors.
