Callum Shinkwin will start tomorrow's second round of the Turkish Airlines Open seven shots off the lead as he continues his bid to secure a place at the season-ending World Tour Championship.

The Bushey-based Moor Park Golf Club professional fired a level-par 71 at Antalya today after an up and down opening round that featured four birdies and four bogeys in the first event of the European Tour’s Final Series.

The 23-year-old will start round two in a share of 47th place but with a total prize fund of $7 million in the limited field event, a good performance could see him make significant progress from his current Race to Dubai ranking of 73rd towards the all-important top 60 places.

Meanwhile, Shinkwin’s club-mate Matt Wallace starts his bid to earn a European Tour card at the second stage of qualifying school in Spain tomorrow morning.

The 26-year-old has already guaranteed a place on the Challenge Tour next year after topping the Alps Tour ranking, but the Pinner-based professional’s sights will be securing a place at final qualifying when he starts his opening round at Lumine Golf and Beach Club.
