Oxhey Jets were left frustrated when they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tring Athletic in the Herts Senior Cup first round on Tuesday night.

The first half ended goalless as both Spartan South Midlands Premier Division sides failed to take advantage of their chances but a number of contentious incidents would be what cost the Jets in the tie.

The second period continued to be a battle until the 58th minute when the home side made the breakthrough.

Nathan Pooley opened up the defence with a timed pass to Sim Armstrong, who steadied himself and casually slotted home past the Tring keeper.

Jets had the ball in the back of the net shortly afterwards through Luke Wells before the linesman deemed the goal to be offside.

With eight minutes to play things began to turn around for the visitors as they found their equaliser through George Carbery.

The Tring player caught a near post ball on the volley to beat debutant Allan Buck but the Jets were in disbelief as they had not been given a throw in after Athletic had run the ball out of play.

And things went from bad to worse for Jets as first the Tring goalkeeper made the save of the match from Wells at the foot of the post, as he got one hand on the ball as it was about to cross the line.

Once again Wells was one-on-one with the keeper but the assistant put his flag up and Jets were denied a possible winner.

The game was finally settled in the fifth minute of added time when Ryan Sturges scored a rebound after Buck had parried away a shot from skipper Sam Jolliffe.

Jets had a tough week as they also fell to a 4-0 loss away at Wembley on Saturday in the league.

A hat-trick from Alex Witham and one from Ayoub Amellal was enough to sign off a bad day at the office for the South Oxhey club.

Sun Sports suffered the same fate as the Jets as they crashed out of the Senior Cup at Lowfield courtesy of a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Hoddesdon Town.

Sports started off well as Kyle Johnston tried a cheeky 40-yard lob, catching the Town keeper off guard, but it smashed off the crossbar.

But the ball fell to Dom David, who volleyed the ball into the back of the net in the first minute of the match.

Their joy was to be short-lived though, as the Lillywhites were soon level as Joss Lillis scored by lobbing the ball over Matty Evans.

And a few minutes later things went from bad to worse for the boys in yellow as Louis Bowen headed at Evans but he failed to hold onto the ball and Bowen kneed it into the back of the net.

Changes were made in the second half but Hoddesdon quickly broke Sun’s hearts as they scored from a breakaway when Jordan Watson and George Hunt combined with a one-two to put Watson clear with only the keeper to beat.

Sun had fared better at the weekend as they defeated St Margaretsbury 2-1 in the Premier Division, with Chris Blunden and Liam James getting the goals.

It was all systems go for Tring on Saturday as they climbed up to fifth in the Premier Division after defeating newly-promoted Crawley Green 3-1 to stretch their unbeaten run to 17 games in all competitions.

Green were rewarded a positive start as they scored in the 12th minute with Aaron Brown firing home from the penalty spot.

But that sparked the away side into life and they levelled the scoring within 10 minutes as Sam Joliffe whacked home his eighth goal of the season from the penalty spot to match Chris Vardy’s record in the process.

The game became more evenly balanced with Chris Clayton sending one effort just over but seconds after the near miss Tring got their second.

Jack Sutherland latched onto a free-kick which caught out the home defence and the ball went past the keeper and into the far corner.

With a 2-1 lead, Athletic started on the front foot after the break and George Carbery got on the end of a couple of crosses but failed to put them away.

Crawley valiantly tried to respond but it was Tring who scored the fourth goal of the game with 13 minutes to go.

Luke Dunstan picked out Carbery with a neat pass and the latter scored for the fourth time in five games.

Leverstock Green continued their good form as they progressed into the last 16 of the SSML Challenge Trophy with a 2-1 win over Division One side Bedford on Tuesday at Pancake Lane.

Curtis Donaldson opened the scoring in the fifth minute as he side-footed the ball home for his 12th goal of the season before Aaron Jarvis equalised 10 minutes later.

But Green dug deep and found the winner in the second half after Donaldson delivered a corner into the six-yard box where a defender almost put the ball into his own net.

The ball was cleared off the line and Davidson pounced and blasted home.
Green also found the net eight times on Saturday as they defeated Hadley, who had reached the third round qualifying of the FA Cup, 8-1.

Ryan Lacey, Lewis Bowers and Davidson all scored two with Karl Thomas and Donaldson getting one a piece. Tyrone Mulholland scored the consolation goal for his side.

Berkhamsted sealed their place into the next round of the Herts Senior Cup as they defeated Potters Bar Town 2-0.

This came on the back of a league loss as Berko were defeated 1-0 by Colney Heath and slipped to third in the table.

Matt Bateman was the star of the show on Tuesday as he scored one goal in each half to ensure his side marched on.

Heath pulled off their victory on Saturday as both sides went down to 10-men with Kai Gardener scoring the winner.
