Callum Shinkwin will be hoping the second half of the lucrative Turkish Airlines Open is kinder to him than the first after slipping back to one-over-par in the second round at Antalya.

The Moor Park Golf Club professional sat seven shots off the lead overnight following a level-par opening round of 71, but now finds himself 16 off the pace following a second round 72.

However, that picture is a little misleading because Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen is six ahead of the rest of the field in the first of the European Tour’s Final Series events after firing a scintillating nine-under-par course record of 62 to move to 15-under for the tournament.

The Bushey-based professional’s round featured three birdies and four bogeys and leaves him in a share of 58th place at the midway stage alongside Masters champion Danny Willett among others.

Shinkwin travelled to Turkey 73rd in the Race to Dubai rankings but with a $7 million total prize purse available, he will be aiming to climb the leaderboard in the last two days and close in the all-important top-60 places to try and secure his place at the season-ending World Tour Championship at the end of his first season on the Tour.
