President’s Cup Round Two

Three first division sides knocked out Premier Division opponents in the President’s Cup yesterday.

The pick of the shocks came in the Chorleywood derby as Old Danes Athletic beat Chorleywood Club 3-2.

It was an end-to-end cup tie with Josh Burks giving Danes the advantage after just five minutes when he raced from the half-way line to score a fine solo goal.

Danes doubled their lead 15 minutes later when Chorleywood failed to clear a corner and Craig Bennett rifled in through a crowd of players, but the game was not over and Chorleywood pulled a goal back before half-time through Ryan McMahon.

After a period of heavy pressure at the start of the second half, they were awarded a penalty for a push which was dispatched by Calum McCarroll to bring the sides level.

The game continued to ebb and flow with both sides missing chances, but with five minutes left a swift passing move allowed Ross Bennett to score the winner from close range at the far post.

West Herts needed a penalty shoot-out to put out Rickmansworth Town following a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

The Stags shrugged off having to field a reshuffled line-up as they went ahead in the first half thanks to Anthony Gilbert’s penalty.

West Herts had three good chances to seal the victory but they failed to take them and with five minutes left Rickmansworth drew level thanks to a T. Gibson header.

No further goals followed in the extra 30 minutes and it was left to Stags goalkeeper Rob Miller to be the star for his team as he saved twice to send his team through to the quarter-finals.

Old Fullerians’ Sam Parker scored four times as they beat a Green Dragon side 4-0 who, for the second successive week, were knocked out of a cup by lower-ranked opponents.

Colne Valley won the all-first division tie against West Watford 2-0.

A delayed kick-off saw the visitors start with just seven players, and Joe Murphy put Valley ahead after only four minutes, but they were unable to add to their tally before the remaining West Watford players turned up.

The tie was settled in the first minute of the second half when Dave Rooney was tripped in the box which allowed Murphy to slot home the penalty.

St Josephs were given a big fright by first division Croxley before they edged through 4-3.

Callum Hayley and Paul Stewart both scored a brace each for St Joes with the Croxley goals coming from Carl Pettitt, Thomas Hughes and Chris Mouthrisis.

Oakview made light work of RD FC, winning 10-1.

Adam Lowton scored a hat-trick, Tom Kennedy and Tom Inch netted a double each, with the other goals coming from Luke Beardsworth, Spencer Bellotti and Chris Harding. RD’s sole reward came from Elliot Myrants-Wilson.

Herts Junior Cup Round Three

Two WSL sides made it through to the fourth round as both Bell Rangers and FC Woodside racked up large wins.

There is a still chance for further league progression this Sunday with both AC Little Silhouette of Milan and AFC Green Machine in action.

Rangers overcame New Greens 8-3, but this was after starting with only ten men and finding themselves a goal behind twice despite Danny Warwick equalising. Louis Soper pulled Rangers level for a second time on the stroke of half-time.

It was a different story after the break as Rangers scored six times and only conceded one more at the death.

Warwick netted a second-half hat-trick, taking his tally for the game to four, with Soper scoring twice himself as he completed his own treble. James Dixon was the other Bell man on target.

FC Woodside made easy work of fellow WSL side The Compasses as they cruised to a 7-1 win.

Drew Snailham scored four, with Tom Dettmer, Tom Ford and Steven Stratford getting the others.

Inter’s run was ended by Victoria United following a 4-2 defeat after Gareth Heavey and Chris Stead scored, while The Tree suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Sawbridgeworth Brewery.

Division One

The sole game in the division saw North Watford beat Croxley Community Centre 8-1 and move up to third place in the table.

Aamer Khan and Shoaib Ali both struck hat-tricks, supported by Mansoor Ali and Liam Fowler. Martin Bartlett got the Croxley goal from the penalty spot in the first half to make the scoreline 3-1 at that time.

Division Two

Fox and Hounds made it six wins out of six with a 3-1 triumph over Bedmond.

Bradley Thompson scored a hat-trick for Fox, including a stunning 30-yard free-kick, while Jack Barr got the Bedmond goal.

Early pacesetters Langleybury Cricket Club suffered a first league defeat of the season, 2-1 at Evergreen who are now in third place, level on points and goal difference with the team they defeated.

All the goals came in the second half, with Chris Wilcox netting a brace and Chris Cook pulling a late reply back for the visitors.

A sole goal from Sam Mortimer was enough for Cassiobury Rangers to beat Rickmansworth Athletic 1-0, whilst Compasses North overcame Bricketwood Social 4-3.

Pat O'Boyle scored twice for Compasses along with efforts from Vilson Culaj and Luke Benson. Social’s goals were netted by Ashley Yelland, Darren Curtis and Tom Minton.

Division Three

Tudor Athletic are the new leaders of the division after they beat Meriden 3-2.

Aarron Crawford put Meriden ahead in the first half, before an injury and change of goalkeeper changed the course of the game in the second period with Tudor scoring three times in rapid succession through two from James Hocking and one from Gary Wicks. Meriden then pulled a goal back through George Ray.

Revolution gained a first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Ripstone who dropped to second place in the table.

Khizer Bandari, Chris Massey and Reece Gould scored for Revolution and Dan Saunders got the Ripstone goal.

Woodlands United made easy work of beating Sun Postal Sports 4-0; Christian Casey, Klevis Dervishi, Jack Leaf and Darren O’Brien with the goals.

Division Four

Just when it looked likely that Ardent were poised to run away with the division they suffered a first league defeat of the season, 5-2 to Bushey Rangers.

Dan Gilespie, Derrin Wright, Scott Cain, Lewis Yates and Sean Grennan got the Bushey goals. Lee Spence and Nick Buschfield-Birch replied.

Railway Arms won the big clash at the bottom the table with a 4-1 success over Woodlands Laurels securing a first league victory of the season.

Connor Cooper-Collins scored twice for Railway, backed up by goals from Joe Perrin and Aaron Morley, with Reon Tyndale getting the Laurels goal.

Division Five

The game at the top of the table between P&P Social and AFC Batchworth ended in a 3-3 draw.

Billy Lobjoit, Louie Lobjoit and Robbie Brown scored for the home side, with Alan Palmer-Halligan getting a brace for Batchworth and Rhys Thoroughgood netting the other.

AC Little Silhouette of Milan are up to second in the table behind Batchworth but ahead of Social after a 6-1 victory against Garston Rangers.

Tom Pegrum grabbed a hat-trick, with Joe Hitchins, Sam Haslam and Ben Davies scoring AC’s other goals. Charlie Kimpton was the Rangers scorer.

William Morris beat bottom-placed Chess United 2-0 through Ben Buchmann and Jay Jarvis.
