Oxhey Jets now sit 13th in the Spartan South Midlands Premier League table after succumbing to back-to-back defeats.

Their disappointing week started on Saturday as Ian Hurst’s double was not enough to save them from a 3-2 defeat against FC Broxbourne Borough.

Jets provided all the early pressure and it was no surprise when Hurst headed his side into the lead after Jude Bell had won an aerial battle with the goalkeeper.

But their advantage was to be short-lived as Borough found the equaliser through a free-kick from 35 yards which dipped straight into the net.

Jets found themselves 2-1 down minutes later after some dreadful marking enabled a Broxbourne striker to slot past Jets debutant keeper Liam Nugent.

The stopper made two important saves before Hurst stepped up to once again score with a header and make it 2-2.

Ellis Brown was replaced by Mark Lambert but before the defender could find his rhythm Borough found their winner from a corner which eluded Nugent’s reach.

On Wednesday night, Jets travelled to Barton Rovers’ ground to play Crawley Town and suffered a 2-0 loss with both goals coming in the first hour of play.

Sun Sports are through to the semi-finals of the St Mary’s Cup after defeating Oxhey 3-1 on Tuesday.

Two goals from Kyle Johnson and one from Karl Penny were enough to send their side through.

But the same joy was not experienced in the league after a well-organised Welwyn Garden City claimed a 3-1 victory on Saturday.

Things went wrong for Sun from the start as Yasin Boodhoo scooped the ball over the line following a free-kick in the first minute.

Luke Robins doubled City’s lead in the 18th minute from a simple tap-in, in what was a carbon copy of the first goal.

City made it three before the break as the Clarets netted with a volley.

Sun had to make a change in the second half and Penny came on for only his second appearance of the season.

The home side had to wait until the 67th minute to reduce the deficit through George Hobson but it was to be a mere consolation.

Tring Athletic managed to come back from their 2-1 defeat against Edgware Town on Saturday and gain three points over Broxbourne with a 1-0 win on Tuesday.

The only goal of the game came from Jack Seaton, who headed into the net from a George Blakeman corner.

Edgware had previously ended Tring’s run of 18 games unbeaten in all competitions.

Elias Moses’ cross was headed in for the first and an own goal sealed the win for Town.

Berkhamsted moved back up to second in the table as they put three unanswered goals past Leighton Town at the weekend.

The pace of Ashton Campbell caused all sorts of problems for the visitors and he had several chances in the opening minutes but failed to capitalise.

But Matt Bateman, who started the season at Leighton, punished his former club by setting up Dan Jones to volley in the opener.

And five minutes into the second half, Bateman doubled Berko’s lead.

Campbell scored the third after substitute Ashley Lewis won the ball in midfield and played it early to the striker with five minutes remaining.

There was also an end to Leverstock Green’s five-match winning run after Hoddesdon Town secured a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

The result condemned Scott Dash’s side to their seventh league defeat of the season.

Leverstock started the match brightly and could have gone in front in the fifth minute when a great ball from George Biggadike gave Jonathan Lacey a run at goal but his shot was blocked. The rebound fell to Karl Davidson who could only steer the ball wide.

Green were punished six minutes later after Davidson was caught in possession in his own half. George Hunt squared the ball across the goal for Jordan Watson, who tapped in from close range.

The bad news kept on coming for Green when they had to make a change, with Shane Wood coming on for the injured Biggadike.

Joss Lillis doubled Hoddesdon’s lead before the break as he slotted the ball home at the near post from a corner.

Green’s best chance of the game came in the 62nd minute when Ben Darby played in Davidson, but he was unable to get enough contact on a diving header to divert the ball inside the post.
