A Pamiter's School student has been selected for the British Judo Association (BJA)England squad.

Haydn Williams, 14, will take part in his first training session with the national set up at the centre of Excellence in Walsall on January 8.

His call-up comes after an impressive year in which he secured a seventh-place finish in the BJA league.

His inclusion comes during a productive December which saw him start the month with a strong showing at the BJA Nationals in Sheffield.

Competing at Under-18 level for the first time, Williams won three fights to reach the bronze medal bout.

Again his quality showed and Williams came through a tough four-minute fight to take the medal.

His Watford-based coach Pete Brent was delighted for Williams and said the medal was just reward for his commitment.

Brent said: “He got what he deserved for his hard work all year and this result shows that hard work pays off.”
