Kings Langley picked up another precious point in their bid to secure Southern League Premier Division football for at least one more season after drawing 2-2 with King’s Lynn Town on Saturday.

After conceding another early goal, Paul Hobbs’ side came back to go ahead on the hour, but had to be content with just one point at the visitors finished strongly, equalising 13 minutes from time.

There were starts for Jack Waldren and James Verney with Ollie Cox injured and Manny Duku dropping to the bench, while manager Paul Hobbs utilised a 4-4-2 system to compensate for the loss of David Hutton after he signed for Chesham United.

An early promising move by the visitors developed into something more when the ball was switched out to Shaun McWilliams on the right and he went to the line to beat the outcoming Xavi Comas and saw his low cross almost along the goal-line bounce off the helpless Mayo Balogun to establish a third-minute lead.

Stung into action, Kings had a Ryan Plowright 20-yarder tipped round the post by Alex Street and a header from the same player scrambled off the line, before a quality goal restored parity.

Jack Pattison rampaged down the right, holding off a challenge, before crossing with accuracy for Stevie Ward’s diving header to arrow through a crowded box and past Street.

Michael Clunan put a shot over the bar in reply, but Kings were in the ascendency with Lewis Toomey hitting the post with a shot on the turn.

Ward and Jack Pattison were giving the away defence plenty of problems on the right and the former was halted by a cynical challenge when threatening to break free.

Town made a double interval substitution that made little initial difference and the unfortunate Toomey beat the keeper but saw his shot cannon back off the junction of post and bar after ten minutes of the second period.

But almost immediately, Ward intercepted a poor mid-half clearance and surged into the box with skipper Sam Gaughran in close attendance. As Street came out, Ward managed to get a shot away as the three came together, but the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Toomey crashed the penalty home with customary confidence and it seemed that a priceless three points were on the cards for the hosts.

But the tide was gradually turning as Kings found difficulty in clearing their lines and finding outlets and following a period of sustained pressure, McWilliams drove the ball home from a partially cleared corner and Kings were indebted to Comas for a point blank save from a Gaughran header to ensure the draw.

Kings Langley: Comas; Pattison, Connolly, Johnson, Balogun; Ward, Hitchcock, Plowright, Waldren; Toomey, Verney (Duku 69). Subs not used: Platt, Cole, Bush, Gallagher.
