Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Quarter-Final

Fox & Hounds are through to the last four of the County Cup after an impressive 8-1 away victory at Hoddesdon side Friendly.

The result was all the more outstanding as Fox came back from conceding an early goal due to a defensive error, but after Ciaran Walsh had equalised they never looked back.

The visitors went on to dominate the tie with Josh Noyes scoring the first goal of his hat-trick by breaking free of the defence and calmly slotting into the bottom corner. Richie Stone got on the score sheet with a brace whilst Bradley Thompson also netted a double and recorded assists for four more of his side’s goals.

Fox now face an away semi-final against St Albans-based Blacksmiths Arms on March 5 for a place in the final.

WSL Junior Cup Quarter-Finals

Both The Tree and FC Woodside booked their places in the last four after home wins, with the other two scheduled games falling foul of unfit pitches.

The Tree beat AC Little Silhouette of Milan 3-1 as two goals from Craig Horwood and one from Glenn O’Malley effectively won the tie for the home side in the first half.

Although the visitors did pull one back in the second period through Jamie Palmer, it was not enough to trouble their hosts.

Woodside saw off Batchworth 7-2, although the victors’ lower division opponents did make more if a fight of it than the score line suggests.

Woodside had also built up a 3-0 half-time lead, but in the second period Batchworth fought back as Michael Bright reduced the deficit.

Although Woodside then scored a fourth, Charlie Kimpton reduced the arrears again, but in the final ten minutes and with Batchworth pushing forward, they were caught on the break three further times.

Drew Snailham and Joe Fox both struck braces for the home side, with the other goals coming from Glen Coniam, Joe McCarthy and Lewis Edwards.

WSL Challenge Cup Round Three

Premier Division Rifle Volunteer made it through to the quarter-finals, beating Second Division Evergreen 6-3 after extra-time following a 3-3 draw at the end of 90 minutes.

Nick Kerley scored a hat-trick for Rifle with Andrew Lomas getting in on the act with a double, while Jacob Trigg added a single.

Aleks Jokiel’s brace and one from Brogan Townsend were enough to take the lower ranked side into the extra period but ultimately Rifle made the two divisional gap show.

Premier Division

Reed Rangers came through a 10-goal thriller to beat Met Police Bushey 6-4 to keep up the pressure on leaders Oakview, who also won 3-1 against Old Fullerians.

Rangers’ win sees the gap at the top of the table at four points with Oakview having a game in hand.

Reed started the game on top, building an early 3-0 advantage thanks to goals from Jack Halcomb, Chris Blunden and John Smith. But by half-time the games was back to all-square after Rob Gladwell had netted a treble.

Blunden netted his second goal of the game to restore Reed’s lead early in the second half, but Police again drew level through Dan Branch.

Ultimately though, a George Hobson free-kick and one from substitute Dominic David, returning from injury, were enough to seal the win.

Oakview’s win was secured with goals from Tom Kennedy, Luke Beardsworth and Tom Inch, with Charles Hailey replying for the home side.

St Josephs, who are playing catch-up with league games, gained a third win of the season after putting 12 unanswered goals past bottom-placed Green Dragon.

Lawrence Olorunfemi led the way with three goals, Sean Sonner, Paul Savana and Toby Stoom all netted a double each and the resounding win was completed with singles from Lewis Cox, Calum Hayley and Jack Waterford.

Division One

With Old Danes Athletic not in action, West Herts returned to the top of the division but not until after they had been given a real fright by RD en route to winning 4-2.

RD could have taken at a least a point from the game, having hit the woodwork on two separate occasions before West Herts went ahead through Roger Lake, who forced the ball home from close range.

The Stags doubled their lead shortly before half-time when a cross from Harry Hughes was met on the volley by Sam Saleh. Although this was parried by the keeper, he made no mistake with the rebound.

RD were on the front foot from the restart though, and pulled two goals back from Joe Ellis and Jake Levy to level the scores.

But with 20 minutes remaining a great through ball from Tiago Campos was latched on to by Saleh, who outpaced the defence before rounding the keeper and firing into an empty net for his second goal.

The Stags finally made the points safe with five minutes remaining when Hughes, shrugging off chasing defenders, rifled in a fine shot that gave the keeper no chance.

North Watford enjoyed a 9-2 home win over AFC Oddfellows to keep a firm grip on third place, although they are still 12 points behind Old Danes in second spot.

Shoaib Ali and Aamer Khan both scored a hat-trick, with Olando Merdith, Mehran Arshad and Dion Belle netting the others. Chris Kepple and Dan Tearle replied for Oddfellows.

Division Three

Oxhey Rangers have a first league win of the season after beating the team directly above them, Rickmansworth Athletic, 4-3.

Dan Pipin was the star man for Rangers, netting a hat-trick, with Jordan Aston-Woods - who has returned to the team where he first made his name from Division Four side Railway Arms - scoring the other.

Shane Kitts, with a double, and one from Jamie Exley were not enough for the home side, who are now deep in the relegation battle.

In a battle of lower mid-table teams Compasses North and Bedmond, it was the home side who won through 3-2.

Bedmond were playing their first game for two months and they got off to a great start when Jack Barr thundered in a header from a corner after just five minutes.

It didn't take long for the game to be level as Compasses took advantage of the first of three mistakes from their opponents to fire home just a few minutes later.

The home side went ahead early in the second period before Ollie Brinton levelled on the hour, but another defensive error provided the winning goal for North five minutes later.

Two-goal Umberto Urgo and Vilson Culaj secured the points for the hosts.

Langleybury Cricket Club easily beat Bricketwood Social 8-1 as Matthew Honey scored a hat-trick, with the other goals coming from Mark Edgar, Garry Cook, Greg Cook, Josh Spinks and Nathan Pooley. Bradley Henwood netted the sole reply.

Division Three

Title-chasing Bell Rangers beat bottom-of-the-table Sun Postal Sports but only by a 4-3 score line.

Bell, who had more than 40 shots during the game, were often thwarted by Sun keeper Karim Eljaniazi, who pulled off several outstanding saves.

Sun took the lead against the run of play through James Airey as Bell went down to nine men through injury. However, manager Jamie Calvin came on and the home side drew level from Louis Soper’s curling shot and not long after they went ahead as Joel Soper’s netted a volley from 12 yards.

With Bell dominating but failing to take several good chances, Sun caught them exposed as Airey made the most of poor defending to score again.

James Dixon came back on the field from his injury and got the third goal after Calvin won the ball back before beating two men and slipped it to his teammate, who found the top corner of the net from 20 yards.

Calvin tucked away a fourth from the penalty spot, but in the final seconds Sun pulled another back through Bradley James.

Mid-table Revolution edged out Green Dragon Reserves 3-2.

James Ward scored twice for Dragon but it was not enough to prevent defeat to a Revolution side who also had Callum Hearn on target with two goals and David Marcyniuk netted their other.

Division Four

Leaders Ardent had an easy 3-0 away win over Inter thanks to goals from Chay Lewis, Lee Spence and Dwayne Duncan.

Roundbush enjoyed a third league win of the season with a 5-3 victory over bottom-placed Woodlands Laurels.

The win was secured thanks to Dave Flannery’s hat-trick and two from Dan Knott, with Daryl Lee, Matt Chipchase and Liam Laverick responding.
