Watford Water Polo Club first team are in perfect position to cement their challenge for promotion into Division Two following an opening round of three straight wins in Gloucester last weekend.

Watford entertain Southampton tomorrow at Habs School and if a victory is to occur, the side will be well on their way to claiming one of the three promotion spots.

The first team then face Croydon Amphibians in their second game of the weekend where the Amps will also be gunning for a win in their bid for promotion.

Head coach Edi Brkovic said ahead of this weekend’s fixtures: “The team played well in Gloucester to gain three wins but the job is not finished and we have to be ready for Southampton and Croydon.

“As a team we can do this, we need to take out chances and stick together as a team to get the job done.”

The club also has eight under-18s representing Regions at this weekend’s Inter-Regional Championships at Woodside Leisure Centre.

Aril Pandaya and Peter Djoric have made the cut to play for the London Region. Meanwhile, Jarryd Myburgh, Will Eggleton, Thuish Kumarage, Jack Warman, Nikhil Patel and Adam Page were to chosen to represent the East Region.

East Region head coach Dean walker said: “I believe that this squad is the strongest boys squad we have put together since the inception of the Regional format. The East will be looking to make the Semis and hoping to medal for the first time.”

London, who finished fourth last year, have a tough task to make the top two as they face Champions North West Steelers, South East, Ireland and Wales in Group A.

The East were drawn in Group B and will take on runners up South West, North West Tigers and Scotland.

The tournament begins tomorrow at 1pm.
