Kyle Langford has been named in the 32-strong British Athletics team for next month’s European Indoor Championships.

The Garston athlete joins Guy Learmonth in being selected for the 800m and comes after he set a personal best of 1.46.79 to finish third at Birmingham’s Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday behind American winner Cas Loxsom, who set the fastest time in the world this year with 1.46.13.

Despite setting his quickest time indoors, the 21-year-old felt he could have gone faster had he enjoyed a clear run in the race.

He tweeted @KyleLangford_96: “Had fun racing in Birmingham today! Feel slightly disappointed got clipped with 200m left took my momentum, feel I left a lot on the track but these races are where you learn and improve! Excited to get back into training and get ready for the outdoors!

The Shaftesbuty Barnet Harrier has made a good start to his competitive year and last week set a new British 600m indoor record at a meeting in Ireland.

The European Indoor Championships take place in Belgrade, Serbia, from March 3 to March 5.
