Sun Sports saw their midweek fixture at Holmer Green fall foul of the weather, but enjoyed better luck in their weekend exploits.

A 2-0 win at Hertfordshire rivals Tring Athletic leaves them three points off the top half of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division table, after bouncing back from their 4-1 humbling to Wembley.

Athletic began the stronger of the sides and Chris Stapleton could have put them ahead as early as the first minute, but his tame effort was easily saved by Matt Evans.

Sun came inches from opening the scoring when Deji Ikusemori’s header, from Ryan McMahon’s free-kick, came back off the post.

But they would lead soon after through Kyle Johnson, who slotted beyond Jack Hopwood following a slide-rule pass from Andy Brennan.

The hosts nearly levelled through Chris Vardy before half-time and kept up their pressure after the interval but bar Chris Stapleton’s free-kick causing momentary panic, there was little to threaten Sun’s fragile lead.

And they sealed all three points when Brennan was brought down inside the box with five minutes to go, and Kerran Lataille smashed the ball low down the middle.

Tring now sit eighth in the table, with the gap to fourth-placed Wembley still only four points.

Two games in as many days in midweek then saw them battered 6-3 at Hoddesdon in the Spartan Premier League Cup on Tuesday, and 24 hours later came back from two goals down to beat Bovingdon 3-2 in the West Herts St Mary’s Cup.

Oxhey Jets were on the wrong end of a 4-0 battering from Hoddesdon Town on Saturday to inflict back-to-back Premier Division defeats on the Boundary Stadium side.

Tom Cowell gave the visitors the lead nine minutes before the interval, leaving manager Lee Stedman with the job of reinvigorating his players at the interval.

Two changes followed, with Jack Robertson and Gary Warn hooked for Jake Kissedu and Adam Lowton, as the Jets boss sought a response.

But instead, he would be left fuming with the speed with which his men fell further behind, as within three minutes of the restart, Josh Lillis prodded home from a corner to put Hoddesdon two goals up.

A third followed shortly after the hour mark from Jordon Watson and four minutes later Reece Hackney put the gloss on a big win for sixth-placed Hoddesdon, leaving Oxhey only five points ahead of the drop zone, with most of their rivals enjoying games in hand.

On Tuesday Oxhey were due to visit Stotfold, who sit a place below them in the table, but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Berkhamsted emerged victorious from a five-goal thriller at Colney Heath on Saturday, courtesy of Alex Campana’s late winner.

Ashton Campbell’s deflected effort gave them the lead just before half-time, but two goals in 10 minutes turned the match on its head after the break.

Ed Canham levelled up in the dying moments - but with the game heading for a draw, Campana struck to steal victory at the death.

There was no such late comeback at Welwyn on Wednesday, though, in treacherous wet conditions.

Marcus Campbell’s second-half double gave the hosts a comfortable lead, and despite Matt Bateman’s late strike, another comeback could not be inspired.
