With London One North survival secure, Fullerians head coach Rich Hoskins is imploring his side to take the lessons learned this year into next season.

A 14-0 win over Barking put the finishing touches on a successful fight against relegation with three games to spare on Saturday.

Hoskins looks back on Fullers first season back in London One North as one of growth, and insists both he and his players have profited from the experience.

“It has been a massive learning curve for the players and for the coaching staff. We have learned a lot and will take those lessons and try and get better,” Hoskins said.

“Those lessons will stand us in good stead. We can’t stand still because if we do that we will be dragged into another dogfight next season.

“You have to look after the ball better at London One North level and we will work on that in the off-season and take it into next year.”

Fullers headed into Saturday’s meeting with bottom-of-the-table Barking with safety all but assured.

They still needed to dot the i’s and cross the t’s with a win and were, Hoskins admits, below the level he had expected of his side before kick-off.

Regardless, the Fullers boss, who described retaining London One North status as feeling like a promotion, was pleased to have got over the line.

“It is a relief. I thought we were going to do it after the positive displays in the last few weeks and it would have taken something going drastically wrong for us to lose,” he said.

“We didn’t play well but we got the result. We managed to stop them scoring and can start building for next season now.”

That building process will, as is always the case, involve strengthening the club’s squad in a bid to avoid a similarly arduous campaign next season.

Top of Hoskins’ priorities is a new scrum-half who can offer an element of control at the breakdown which Fullers have missed at points this season.

He said: “Without being rude to the guys we have got, it is really important we have an experienced nine. We have really struggled in that area.

“We have a couple of young players who have done well, but they would be the first to admit they have struggled for consistency.

“It is somewhere where we are looking to strengthen and it is just about adding depth in general across the entire squad.

“I want to make sure that if we do get a couple of injuries we are not scratching around and having to ask people to play in positions they are not familiar with.”
