Callum Shinkwin’s Open de France challenge faded in disappointing fashion over the final 18 holes as he finished near the back of the field in Paris yesterday.

Having made the cut for the first time in ten European Tour events, the Bushey golfer went into the last round on even par following rounds of 69, 72 and 72 at the par-71 Le Golf National.

Having played the front nine holes in par or one-under on the first three days, the Moor Park Golf Club professional struggled on the front nine and went out in a five-over 41 after four consecutive bogeys were followed by a double bogey from holes three to seven, although he did pull one shot back on the par five ninth.

But that birdie did not lead to an upturn in fortunes for the 24-year-old, who dropped five more shots in the closing nine holes to finish the tournament in a share of 66th place on ten-over-par.
