Matt Wallace is among the early frontrunners at the KLM Open after shooting a three-under-par opening round of 68.

With the majority of the 150-strong field having either started or completed their first 18 holes at The Dutch, the Moor Park Golf Club professional is currently in a five-way tie for fifth, two shots off the lead and one of 27 players under par in tough scoring conditions which has led to play being suspended for high winds and flooded fairways at the time of writing.

Wallace began his round from the 10th and although he bogeyed the par four 12th with what was to be the only bogey of his round, the 27-year-old was quickly back to even par with a birdie at the par five 13th.

The Spijk course has four par five holes and the Pinner-based player was to capitalise on two more of these – at 18 and six – while the fourth of his birdies came at the par four second.

This year’s Open de Portugal champion went into the tournament 135th in the Race to Dubai standings after finishing in a tie for 70th at last week’s European Masters, the third successive European Tour event at which he made the cut.
