Oxhey Jets were on form to record a win on the road against Colney Heath in the South Midlands Premier Division on Tuesday.

With Heath among many pundits’ picks to compete for the title, the clash was always likely to test Jets’ good early-season form.

It proved to be a tight clash as the teams went in level at the break, but Josh Noyes broke the deadlock soon after the restart with a fine solo strike.

Colney had a golden chance to level on 64 minutes when Vass Mandeville conceded a penalty, only for the spot-kick to be blazed high over the bar.

Jets sealed the win through Harry Beaumont as he came from the bench to make it 2-0.

The victory leaves Oxhey third in the top-flight table, seven points behind leaders Biggleswade but having played three games fewer.

The result saw Jets carry on their form from the weekend after they claimed a 2-1 win over Totternhoe in the Challenge Trophy on Saturday.

Totternhoe came into the game in fine form after winning seven and drawing one of their eight games so far this season in Division Two.

But two goals in the first half, including a strike for birthday boy Scott Pugsley, ensured their Totternhoe’s hopes of an upset were unfulfilled.

They did pull a goal back late in the act but it mattered little as Jets, who entertain Edgware Town tomorrow, secured the win.

A clash between third and fourth place proved to be as keenly contested as predicted as Berkhamsted drew 2-2 with Leighton Town on Tuesday.

Berko took the lead in the 16th minute thanks to Ashley Morrisey’s fine effort only for Alex O’Brien to restore parity before half-time.

Stacey Field’s 10th goal of the season looked to be the winner, but a scrambled Kai Ashley goal in the 85th minute denied Berko, who are now a point and place behind Jets in the table in fourth.

Tuesday’s draw built on a 2-1 win over Wembley secured over the weekend, which came in dramatic circumstances.

After going behind, Berko levelled the scores thanks to Adam Mead’s superb 78th-minute free-kick and completed the turnaround through Field’s strike in the second minute of added time.

Leverstock Green thought they had finally got off the mark at the expense of Sun Sports on Saturday as Jonathan Lacey scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 win.

However, Sun’s resignation from the league meant the result was expunged, and there was further misery for Green on Wednesday when they lost 4-0 at Harpenden Town.

There was double disappointment for Tring Athletic as they went down to a 2-1 defeat to London Tigers on Saturday and then lost 2-0 against Wembley in midweek.

Tommy Twelves got their only goal across the two defeats.
