Herts Sunday Senior Cup Round One

West Herts have not enjoyed the best of starts in the league this season since their promotion to the top flight but on Sunday that had an excellent 3-2 away win over St Margaretsbury United in the County Cup.

The Stags controlled the game from the start and took the lead on 20 minutes when a cross from Shane Price was guided in at the far post by Chris Colman.

That advantage was doubled ten minutes later when Ali Khan laid on a second for Colman, only for the home side to be given a lifeline just before the break when the unfortunate Price sliced a clearance into his own net.

West Herts never really looked troubled after the break until a free-kick saw them concede the equaliser when the ball eluded the defence for a tap in at the far post.

But almost straight from the restart, Colman latched onto a through ball from Roger Lake to shrug off a couple of defenders to fire home for a deserved hat-trick and give his team a much needed win.

Herts Sunday Intermediate Cup Round One

It was also a good morning’s work for the league’s teams in the Herts Intermediate Cup.

Langleybury CC enjoyed a 4-0 away win over Sporting Oddfellows, Josh Spinks scoring a brace and one each from Greg Cook and Dan Chitty.

FC Unicorn, who enjoyed a good run in this competition last season, are up and running again this year, but they needed penalties to beat Jam United.

With the scores tied 1-1 after extra-time - Luke Peerless having scored the Unicorn goal – the tie was decided by spot-kicks, with Peerless netting along with Josh Kitt, Craig McKay and Joel Soper as they won 4-3.

The all-WSL clash between First Division Croxley and Second Division Ripstone saw the lower ranked team through by the odd goal in seven, although the home side were down to the bones in terms of players available.

Leigh Parr’s two goals and one from Aaron Farrell were not enough to stop Risptone, who scored thanks to a Tom Courtney hat-trick and one from Lee Culverhouse.

RD lost 4-2 at Berkhamsted Tornadoes, Jake Levy with both goals, while Bushey Sports Club went down by a single goal to Boxmoor.

Premier Division

Fox & Hounds are the new leaders in the Premier Division after a 4-3 win over Reed Rangers, meaning the divisional runners-up for the last two seasons have now lost their first two matches.

Chris Blunden curled in a 25-yard effort from a free-kick to give Reed the lead, but their opponents then struck three times before half-time, with Alex Witham scoring twice en route to a hat-trick.

Richie Stone set up the first for Witham to fire home, and for the second left-back Laurence Burch’s run and cross found Witham on the edge of the area and he made no mistake. Josh Noyes added the third right on the half-time whistle with a left-foot strike.

Witham completed his treble after the break before Reed applied some late pressure and pulled two goals back from Blunden as he completed his own treble.

St Josephs have a first league win of the season as they made it five points from three games and remain unbeaten following a 2-0 victory over Chorleywood Club.

Lawrence Olorunfemi netted both goals in an uninspiring game, the first coming 20 minutes into the second half and the second in added-on time.

Division One

Compasses North enjoyed a 5-2 home win over Cassiobury Rangers.

The victors came back from 2-1 down at the break after goals from Jordan Woolf and a penalty from Jack Henley had put Rangers in the lead, but Compasses responded with four unanswered goals after the break.

The home side’s goals came from Cleveland Brandy with a double, Tommy Twelves, Ben Twelves and Sam Ackner.

Evergreen edged past North Watford by the odd goal in three.

North Watford went ahead early thanks to a penalty from Aamer Khan, but Jake Colley set up the equaliser for Ryan Luke, who scored with a well-taken lob.

Ben Adams scored Evergreen’s deserved winner in the second half, after the visitors had missed several other good chances.

Division Two

Tudor Athletic and Ardent are the early pacesetters in the division after they both made it two wins out of two.

Athletic beat Woodlands United 5-0, Jack Roberston with a hat-trick and singles from James Hocking and Callam O'Connor.

Ardent were also victorious by a five-goal margin as they saw off Oxhey Rangers 6-1 thanks to Jack Skinner’s double and singles from Connor Sansom, Lee Spence, Kiefer Shuttleworth and Charlie Salvage. Connor Murphy replied for Rangers.

The other game in the division saw Rickmansworth Athletic beat Bedmond 2-1, Jordan Allen and Alex Ungreanu scoring for the home side with Jordan Davies responding for the visitors.

Sun Regent Sports put ten past Bricketwood Social, who have conceded 18 goals in their opening two games.

Aarron Crawford led the way with four, Dave Flannery struck twice, with Ben Dunton, Dean Ward, George Goes and Joe Baldwin scoring the four other goals. Martin Sanservino and Tom Minton replied for Bricketwood in the 10-2 defeat.

P&P Social were also in scoring form as they put seven past Inter, with the visitors scoring twice themselves.

Jimmy Talbot and Donik Sopa both struck a brace each, with Luke Foster, Reece Davies and Louie Lobjoit also on the scoresheet. Chris Brock and an own goal were Inter’s rewards in an otherwise poor performance.

The Tree had a straightforward 5-0 win over Revolution thanks to a Glenn O'Malley hat-trick and two from Jordan Robinson.

There were also five goals in the game between Bushey Rangers and Hertfordshire Lions, but this was a far closer affair as the home side edged out 3-2 winners.

Dan Whitman with two, and George Davies registered for the home side, with Joe Turberfield and Richard Batson finding the back of the net for Lions.

The other game resulted in a 1-1 draw between AC Little Silhouette of Milan and Hertsmere.

Joe Hitchins put the home side ahead from the penalty spot before Carl Davies headed the Hertsmere equaliser.

Division Four

Railway Arms and South Oxhey both made it two wins out of two.

Arms made light work of NW FC, winning 5-0 as Paul Craig scored four times and Scott Seamons once.

It was a far closer affair for South Oxhey as they beat Garston Athletic 4-3 through a Will Wilson double and one each for Liam Coles and Bradley Bridges. Nelson Santos, Rob Henney and Luke Everitt netted the Garston goals.

Sidney Burton and Matt Westwood were on target as Oxhey Athletic beat Sun Postal Sports 2-0.

WSL Junior Cup Round One, First Legs

AFC Batchworth and Everett Rovers are almost certain to qualify for the quarter-finals after both enjoyed victories on the road.

AFC Batchworth beat Chess United 4-0, whose cup woes continued after Jake Knight scored a hat-trick and Craig Mathieson was also on target.

Everett put eight past Batchworth without reply, starting with a stunning half-volley from 25 yards by Charlie Frost after ten minutes to the last goal by Ryan Denham in the final minute.

Leading 3-0 at half-time, Everett never looked in any danger with their other goals coming from Rob Barham (2), Craig Scott, Harry Gilbert, Stephen Stuart and Barry Mitchell.
