Reece Bellotti is the new Commonwealth Featherweight champion.

The South Oxhey boxer again unleashed his impressive power to knock out Jason Cunningham at York Hall to extend his record to 11-0 with a 10th knockout.

The 26-year-old had been behind on the scorecards against his more experienced opponent but the fight took a decisive twist in the fifth round when he floored Cunningham with a superb right hook.

The former champion survived to the bell, but ‘The Bomber’ did not relent and forced the referee to stop the fight in the early stages of the next round as he continued his impressive rise up the boxing ladder.

Bellotti had started each round quickly, looking to maintain a high level of intensity from the off, but Cunningham had been content to bide his time and was able to land some good scoring shots in the opening four rounds.

“We knew it was going to be a tough test, it was a great fight," Bellotti told Sky Sports in the immediate wake of his triumph. "It was very tricky to start off with but we knew that was how it was going to be, and my aim was to try and get him late on if I could. He’s a tricky opponent, a very good fighter and I got a good win in the end."

Asked about the stoppage, the new champion responded: “I’m not necessarily looking for the power all the time, it’s just whether I get to him in the end.

"My fitness told in there, I work hard in training and it was my first 12-rounder so it’s at the next level. I’ve had very good sparring and we’ve prepared for it tonight."
