Oxhey Jets were left with nothing to warm their spirits in freezing conditions as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Leighton Town on Saturday.

Jets followed the weekend disappointment with a dramatic draw against London Tigers on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0 deep into stoppage time, Jets scored in the 97th minute to earn a share of the spoils, but remain in danger of going down this season.

They are just two points clear of the drop zone with 12 games remaining in their league season.

With 20th-placed Holmer Green occupying the first relegation spot and having two games in hand over Jets, the Boundary Stadium club will do well to pick up their form as soon as possible.

Their first chance to find some form comes with an away clash against Biggleswade United tomorrow.

At the other end of the table, Berkhamsted’s hopes of mounting a late charge for the title took a big blow as they lost 4-0 against Welwyn Garden City on Wednesday night.

The win saw Welwyn, who have played five games fewer than Berko, move ahead of their opponents in the table to occupy top spot.

They have a one-point gap over Berko after the win which came thanks to goals from Ash Kersey, Josh Bronti, Tyler Hatherly and Jon Clements.

The midweek defeat came on the back of a far more successful clash away against Wembley on Saturday as the Comrades secured a 3-1 victory.

It took 12 minutes for Berko to get on the scoresheet as Ashton Campbell finished with a well-taken finish which left the Wembley keeper with little chance.

Berko were profiting from an energetic pressing approach and their style of play yielded their next two goals.

The first fell to Ashley Morrissey after a high press saw the Comrades win the ball high up the pitch.

Morrissey then cut in from the wing and managed to find the net with a low drive from a tight angle to double the away side’s advantage.

They repeated the trick again a minute before half-time to make it 3-0 when Matt Bateman picked up the ball in the Wembley half and played in Dan Jones.

He wasted little time in dispatching a composed finish to all but seal the points.

Wembley managed to grab a goal of their own but it proved to be little more than a consolation as Berko saw out a comfortable win.

Leverstock Green lost out by the odd goal in seven in a thrilling clash against Cockfosters on Saturday.

Snowy conditions meant a pre-match effort was needed to get the game on as the pitch needed clearing ahead of kick-off.

When the match started, Green saw a bright start go unrewarded as they fell behind to a penalty.

Jonathan Lacey levelled in the 21st minute and Shane Wood made it 2-1 soon after.

A goalkeeping error allowed Cockfosters to level and they then scored a second penalty to go ahead.

They extended their lead, before Green grabbed a third late on through Lacey.

Tring Athletic put some daylight between themselves and the danger zone with an injury-time 2-1 win at fifth-placed Biggleswade on Tuesday.

A Max Hercules free-kick gave the visitors the lead on the hour, but it looked like they would have to settle for a point after Biggleswade equalised in the final minute.

But Tring responded superbly to this setback, taking advantage of the home side conceding possession cheaply and working a neat give-and-go for Luke Dunstan to finish confidently and seal the three points.
