Berkhamsted's memorable end to the season continued on Tuesday night as they booked their place in the St Mary’s Cup final.

After a 3-2 defeat of Edgware Town had sealed promotion from the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday, Berko arrived at the mid-week meeting with Tring Athletic in confident mood.

That optimism proved to be well places as they eased to a 2-0 win over their local rivals to set up a final with Leverstock Green on Monday, May 14.

There was nothing to separate the two sides at half-time, but Berko made a bright start after the break to go ahead in the 47th minute.

Josh Chamberlain saw a shot crash back off the post and the rebound was handled by a Tring man to give the Comrades a chance from 12 yards.

It was one which Chamberlain was not about to pass up and he calmly beat Lewis Todd from the spot.

The game was still in the balance and it took until 12 minutes from time for the Comrades to give themselves comfort.

Ashley Morrissey got free down the wing and crossed for Ashton Campbell, who did the rest from point-blank range.

Tuesday night’s win completed a fine few days for Berko after they overcame Edgware to seal their promotion.

They made a lightning quick start to the encounter to cruise into a 3-0 lead with only 17 minutes on the clock.

Their opening goal came with seven minutes played when Campbell arrived at the back post to convert Alex Campana’s cross.

Berko doubled the lead moments later through Dan Jones and top scorer Matt Bateman completed the early onslaught.

The early lead seemed to relax Berko and they twice allowed Town to hit back but held on for the win nonetheless.

Berkhamsted will look to finish their league campaign in strong fashion when they take on Oxhey Jets at home.

Victory would see them breach the 90-point barrier in the league and set them up perfectly for their cup final with Green.

Their vanquished semi-final opponents Tring endured a less enjoyable weekend as they slipped to a 3-2 loss against Harpenden Town.

The defeat was hard to swallow after a brace from Luke Dustan looked to be enough to secure a point, only for Harps to score a 90th-minute winner.

Jets’ woes showed no sign of letting up as they suffered a 5-0 drubbing at Harpenden Town on Tuesday following Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at home to St Margaretsbury.

With Jets some six points from safety, they are clinging on to their top-flight status by their fingertips They are six points from safety and now face two must-win games but even maximum points may not be enough to save them from the drop.

At the time of going to press Jets were preparing to take on Hoddesdon Town at home before taking on Berkhamsted on the road tomorrow.

Leverstock were not involved in league action this weekend and they finish their league season at home to champions Welwyn Garden City on Monday before visiting London Tigers two days later.

Although Green will go into the St Mary’s final against Berkhamsted as underdogs, it could well be a close clash after the two sides played out respective 2-2 and 5-5 draws in the league.
