Lee Bircham is hoping the village turns out to join the celebrations when Bovingdon receive the Herts Senior County League trophy on Saturday.

The Green Lane side have been the dominant force in the Premier Division this season and victory over Wormley Rovers will move them on to 76 points, meaning they will have dropped just eight all season and will win the title by a minimum 15-point margin.

“All in all it has been a very pleasing season and one we can all be proud of,” said the Bovingdon boss. “We’ve been told this is the highest the club have ever finished and the first time it has ever won this league.

“We want the whole village to come along and enjoy the day and not just within our football club.

“Admission is free and we are mixing the juniors in with us this Saturday and having a good 20-plus mascots for the day so hopefully it is going to be a great day and evening for everyone.”

Having suffered just a second league loss of the campaign against Standon & Puckeridge, the champions responded in impressive fashion by beating Belstone 7-0 on Thursday before repeating the trick at neighbours Chipperfield Clarendon two days later.

Bovingdon missed several chances to take the lead on Saturday before Ibrahim Lukulay made one count in the 15th minute.

The advantage was doubled five minutes later when Cameron Brooks netted his second league goal of the season on the rebound after Jack Johnson hit the post, and a third followed with a 33rd-minute penalty from Stefan Bailey after Justin Thompson had been fouled.

There was no let up after the break as Lewis Pritchard made it 4-0 five minutes after the restart, with the same player doubling his tally from a Nathan Pooley corner in the 66th minute.

Five became six with 15 minutes remaining when Pritchard claimed his hat-trick from a Lukulay corner, although there were strong suggestions of an own goal from the Chipperfield keeper.

Pritchard missed the chance to make 100 per cent certain of his treble, only to see his penalty and the rebound saved, but the Green Army did net a seventh late on when Johnson scored his first goal for the club from a free-kick.

Watford Observer:

“The way we’ve bounced back from a defeat has been the story of our success this season,” said Bircham. “After a disappointing result at Standon we’ve come back with two 7-0 victories in a week. That’s the reaction I asked for and the lads did that.

“I keep saying with us that we are a very good side but only when we are willing to work harder than the other team. We more than did that on Saturday.

“We’ve got one more game to go on Saturday. I don’t really want this season to end but I want us to finish it in the right way.”

The victory against Belstone was all-but wrapped up inside the opening 15 minutes as Bovingdon raced into a 3-0 lead through assistant boss Louis Austin, Courtney Massay and Ed Canham.

Austin and Massay both doubled their tallies after the break before Ben Davis also struck twice in the final 10 minutes to round off the scoring.
