Aidy Boothroyd could be set for a dramatic return to management quicker than anyone envisaged – if the bookmakers are to be believed.

Sky Bet have suspended betting on the former Watford boss taking charge at Huddersfield Town after he was backed down at all prices from 8-1 to 1-4.

The bookmakers’ head of PR, Helen Jacob, said: “After taking just a handful of bets on the other candidates and racking up a four figure liability on Boothroyd, we have suspended betting for the time-being pending further developments.”

The League One club are looking for a new manager after parting company with Stan Ternent earlier today.

Boothroyd’s departure from Vicarage Road yesterday came hours after Sky Bet had slashed his odds on being the next Championship manager to lose his job from 14-1 to 6-4.

I wish him the best if this is right.

I'd be surprised if this was the case.
He really needs to take some time out and re-valuate, spend some time with family, sit back and watch the offers come flooding in.....
Could do better than this mob anyway!

HAHAHAHA
Now that is funny. Why do people always measure the playing capability of their club by the amount of fans they get through the gates. Must be a northern thicky thing.

In the style of Sir David Attenborough .....
Here we have one of those Northern Monkey's that live on past glories, not content with having his freshly collected Banana, but also an inferiority complex to both Man and other supporters Football Clubs.
He sits alone in his tree picking at the fur to his mate and eating everything that's collected from her bug infested body, he thinks back to the 1920's when his own club were successful....So many F.A Cup wins....so many 1st division titles...so many excellent wins against the likes of ManU / Liverpool etc choosing to forget they were all PRE-WAR apart from 2 seasons in the 50's and 2 in the 70's!
Still.. he's more than comfortable with with the fact that his beloved "Terriers" have had so many fantastic managers of late...
Stan Ternent, Gerry Murphy, Andy Ritchie, Peter Jackson, Mel Machin,
Mick Wadsworth, Lou Macari, etc etc etc that he would like to add the very only "Aidy Boothroyd" to that long list of fantastic Managers..........
Get real sunshine!

Why not Huddersfield? They have an excellent (newish) stadium, with a greater capacity than ours, a very good academy, a fan base waiting to be revived, an ambitious new chairman prepared to spend on players (owner of a £45 m turnover company, lifelong fan--good sign) an illustrious 100 year history and were promotion challengers very recently. Fits Aidys job description to a "t"--an underperforming club he can mange to promotion and so improve his credentials for his next job. With his "compensation" from Watford now said to be less than 600K , then if he does end up there, this is beginning to look like an exit strategy masterminded by him, which may well have taken Simpson by surprise. Has he been asked that question?

If he goes there then good luck to him. They are a club moving in the right direction off the pitch and it would not be too much of a task for him to turn the club round on the pitch. He will still need somebody with experience to work with him. Might he take some of the back room staff at Watford with him? If so that would not be a bad thing.

Interesting to read a very fair and objective assessment of Town from Roger68, also from St Albans. Huddersfield were Aidy B's first club and he is relatively speaking a local lad (from Baildon, about 8 miles away) and so there is much common ground between the parties. Interesting also to read somewhat less objective comment about Northern Monkeys - I don't seem to recall many such comments being made when Aidy got you into The Prem! The fact the bookies have stopped taking bets suggests this is a done deal, a view held by many at Town. If so, I think Roger has it spot on - we are an underperforming club with high expectation and given few who are impartial would argue Watford punched above their weight under AB, hopefully he can do the same for us.

I feel I am in a rather unique position on this one. I am Watford season ticket holder and live in Huddersfield. I also have a seat at HTFC. I go to most Hornet games home and away - that's a 400 mile round trip to the Vic.

Town are a good club, the stadium is excellent, but the reason they get big crowds this season is that it is their 100th anniversary - and to celebrate that fact most adult season tickets were only £100. I have a 'season ticket' in the name of my nephew. He's 2 and it cost me the grand sum of £0. When I go to Town games I upgrade to an adult - my seat is nearly always empty, but reserved if need be.

Town are a team with potential, they have an excellent academy and have tried to bring in some decent players this year, but they have under achieved badly and the blame must be put firmly on Ternants door.

As a postscript, please Watford, anybody but Ternant !

Let me make it clear that I am not suggesting that Boothroyd had the Huddersfield job in his pocket or even in his mind when he allowed himself to be dismissed. However football is a small world, and he must have anticipated that jobs at his level were likely to come up before long,-- he may have calculated that being a free agent , with no contractual baggage , would make him a more attractive proposition to prospective new employers (no compensation to pay to Watford).I am sure Huddersfield will do everything properly with advertisements, a short list interviews etc --Aidy interviews well, has a good track record and local connections so it would not be suprising to see him get the job , and make a success of it.

So when watford fans justify Simpsons Claims that we cant attract a big crowd therefore we are a small club its ok.

But when a huddersfied fan does it its all wrong.

double standards

As the old song has it "Que sera sera" = whatever will be. Good luck for your future Aidy. Don't let the "blighters" grind you down.
