Andrei Stepanov would love to land a permanent deal at Watford as it was his “dream” to ply his trade in England.
The 30-year-old joined the Hornets last month on a short-term contract until the end of the season, but the defender hopes to secure a permanent deal for next season.
Stepanov has collected 79 caps for Estonia, but has been limited to just one substitute appearance for Watford due to the performances of Mike Williamson and Jay DeMerit.
The centre-back was without a club for a while after leaving FC Khimki last year and admits his fitness is not yet up to scratch.
The former Torpedo Moscow man said he is benefiting from playing reguarly for the Reserves and hopes to show he is worth a spot in Brendan Rodgers’ squad next year.
Stepanov said: “I would love of course to stay because it is many players’ dream to play in England and what I have seen in the last few weeks is really exciting.
“Everything that is going on – the atmosphere, the stadiums and the type of football – is very good and it is much more exciting than playing in Russia, where I have played for the last five years. It is very different.”
He added: “I am enjoying every minute of being at Watford. Watford took me as cover for Mike and Jay and they are doing very well so I have to just wait and train well and see what happens.
“There is only two weeks until the end of the season and then I need to train 100 per cent and show myself in the training and that is all I can do at the moment and then we will see after the two weeks.”

As to signing him is he not likely to ask for a fairly hefty wage? Can we afford it, should we take him on if there are two players at the club already who have been keeping him out.
We haven't seen enough of him for me to have an opinion on him as a player so have to rely on BR to make the right choice
