Watford chairman and vice chairman fly to Las Vegas so Sir Elton John has 'no surprises'

Jimmy Russo says Watford’s honorary life president Sir Elton John is delighted with the direction of the club going forward after he and his brother Vince travelled to see the superstar in Las Vegas last week.

The Russos were keen to meet Elton to inform him of the club’s situation, on and off the pitch, so there would be “no surprises” for the singer-songwriter in the future.

Vince stated in a recent interview that Elton had been “kept in the dark” in the past, so when the brothers met with the rockstar before his final show in Las Vegas last Wednesday, they presented him with a manual from the club, which had reports from each department and manager Brendan Rodgers.

Jimmy, who became the Hornets chairman in March, said: “The thing with us going out there is that Elton deserves respect. Not only is he a former chairman of the club but he is Watford’s honorary life president and deserves to be kept informed.”

He added: “We told him what we want to deliver and what has been delivered. It was nice to go and see him on a positive note.

“When we took over the club we were third from bottom, we are now closing the season half way up the table, so we have improved both on the pitch and off it.

“It was an extremely positive trip and the vibes from Elton were that he is happy with the situation at the club going forward. He was delighted.

“He is very happy with what is going on at the football club and its new structure.”

The Russos flew out to Vegas on Sunday, April 19, and met with Elton on the Tuesday to discuss club matters.

The brothers then attended his final tour date in the city the following day and attended the after party at Watford’s former chairman’s request, before flying back on the Thursday.

Along with the manual, Elton was also presented with a new home and away kit by the club.

Due to his constant touring, the 62-year-old finds it difficult to attend Watford games but he expressed his desire to come and watch the Hornets early next season.

Despite being on a different continent for much of the year, Elton keeps in touch with what is going on at the club and speaks to Vince Russo and Rodgers on a regular basis.

l Elton John, Graham Taylor and Brendan Rodgers have all signed the first-ever sample shirt for next season’s new Joma kit and it will be auctioned at the club’s end of season awards dinner on Sunday.

The shirt being auctioned and the two handed to Elton are the only ones currently in existence as the kit has yet to go to production.

All this Elton stuff is emotional twoddle. All I really care about is how much money he puts in. He hasn't coughed up any loot for years.

A lot of posts are incoherent drivel – but this one takes the prize for the year. If my memory is correct he did a concert last year and could be doing one again this year. He has over the years been a great supporter of the club and was a helping hand in getting rid of the old guard a few months ago. I would suggest that the club would be much poorer without his support.

This has made me sign up and post for the first time! I love Elton, he is one of the most famous people in the world and he supports the golden boys! i think any money he puts in is great and while hes still involved in the club it means we are a little less likly to have financial worries

No, he may not have directly put money into the club but if you remember he did put on a concert for the benefit of the club, and hopefully another one soon.

What right do we have telling SEJ how he should spend his money.

Hogweed spouts hogwash. SEJ has only ever been good for WFC. The first step to respect is self respect. Our club is behaving honourably again. The last concert was brilliant. Hopefully the next will be as good. Can you get swineflu from hogweed?

Well you have to say he has done a good service to us over the years though?

Doesn't moean everything will be perfect this summer.

Expect any half decent bids for top players to be accepeted but we do have good youngsters coming through and I am sure Rodgers can bring in players wisely.

Oy Arthur highly aggressive. Must have got under your skin. I don't retract a word of my post. I just elucidate what you all think. SEJ can stick his concert. What we need from him is hard cash cos the only way we are going up is with money. He has enourmous pockets and should pull his fat stubby fingers out.

Hog out.

PS Arthur you are an oaf.

I dont think how much money SEJ has or doesnt have is of no relevance to WFC. When all is said and done WFC is a business and should be self sufficient and not have to rely on a millionaire supporter to bail them out every time the sh*t hits the fan. WFC should be grateful to have SEJ on board again, be grateful for all he has done in the past, and if he decides to financially support the club in the future then thats fantastic.

SEJ has undoubtedly been a massive influence on the club ever since he first took control, arguably we would still be a third division outfit if it was not for his period of ownership and the club and town are known worldwide due to his association, and by stepping down from his life presidency last year he sent a big message to the previous board. You couldn’t ask for a better ambassador.

But at the risk of getting slatted I have to agree slightly with Hogweed in as such as whilst its all well and good wanting to keep SEJ’s informed the lengths they went to seemed rather over the top, after all he is not on the board or an investor and his position at the club is honorary. Could a meeting not have been organised for when SEJ was next in the UK? Maybe the Russo’s visit was more than just keeping him informed, maybe the Russo brothers hope that he will invest in the club once more? Or maybe they are just massive SEJ fans and wanted to see his concert!

It’s such a shame our majority shareholder, the Tory, who is supposedly one of the wealthiest men in the country is apparently unconcerned about seeing the club struggle/possibly go under. Has he actually made any comment on the clubs current financial plight, is his silence and lack of concern a sign of how much he has leeched from the club the past few years? I only hope that if he’s had his pound of flesh he sells his shares to someone who cares…

For all REAL hornets.
Hogweed is obviously on the wind up.DO NOT BITE.
We all know what the huge majority thinks,SEJ is a ledge.
