France's Claudio Beauvue joins Tommy Smith and Jobi McAnuff on Watford trip to Spain

Trialist Claudio Beauvue will join Jobi McAnuff and Tommy Smith on Watford’s plane this afternoon as the 24-man squad depart for Spain.

Contrary to reports, the Hornets were able to extend Beauvue’s five-day trial from Troyes, which was set to end yesterday, and the Frenchman should take part in the Hornets’ two pre-season friendlies over the next week.

However, Watford say they will not be issuing the full squad list, leaving question marks over whether a few high-profile names have been left at home or if there are other new additions in the squad.

The club have confirmed Smith and McAnuff will definitely travel, as will duo Scott Loach and Jay DeMerit, who were given extended time off due to international duty.

On Saturday, manager Malky Mackay said he expected to take the whole squad who played at Wealdstone, with the exception of Kurtney Brooks, although 16-year-old keeper Jamie Irving is also unlikely to travel.

If that was the case, it would leave six places left. Smith, McAnuff, Loach, DeMerit and, most likely, Cowie would fill five of the spots and Mackay may decide to take a third goalkeeper, which would be Jonathan North.

Watford’s failure to provide a squad list will leave fans guessing but if the above is not far wrong, then the likes of Will Hoskins, Mat Sadler, John-Joe O’Toole and Lewis Young may have been left at home.

Al Bangura and Jordan Parkes, who is on trial at Gillingham, are expected to miss out.

The Hornets face CF Balaguer at Ivars d'Urgell, in Lleida, on Friday and UE Lleida at their ground Camp d'Esports, in Lleida, on Monday. Both games kick off at 8.30pm.

The squad at Wealdstone was Beauvue (trialist), Brooks, Bryan, Doyley, Ellington, Eustace, Graham, Harley, Henderson, Hodson, Irving (gk), Kiernan, Lee (gk), Mariappa, Oshodi, Priskin, Severin, Sordell, Williamson.

Who do you think has been left out of the 24-man squad and why?

still no mention about Jenkins. Was he ill last weekend or is he subject to a possible transfer?

Hope not. That would be a real shame.

As far as McAnuff is concerned he has been seen with his agent Tony Finnigan, presumably discussing a move elsewhere, as Watford want to either reduce his absurdly high wages or sell him. Strangely enough the other absentee Tommy Smith has the same agent & both are obviously having difficulty in agreeing personal terms with other clubs due to their absurd demands for Championnship players. Hence they will be on the plane to Spain.

Nice to see Smith and McAnuff on the plane.

Less nice to see the local press in Reading still insisting Tommy and Jack C are the two top targets etc and how Tommy is desperate to play for Judas. On looking through the stats Tommy didnt score the majority of his goals under Judas, and based on an average per game Malky won that hands down, also from memory when Judas was in charge we played some good football but in certain games Tommy did not play that well. Hope a week with Malky and away from the hype settles tommy down.

I thought JC was a good player, but tired towards the end of the season and looked ordinary. Perhaps over played!
BR has so much to learn and I for one hope he fails

RobWattie, McAnuff seen with his agent, wooo. If this is the case he must be looking to move? Footballers can keep in contact with agents for reasons other than always looking for a move. As for absurd wages & struggling to agree terms with other clubs because of this. There are a large number of clubs in our division who clearly pay bigger wages than Watford - Reading & Sheffield United being 2 of them, who funnily enough both want to sign Smith. As for absurd wages, couldn't we say that about the majority of professional footballers.
