Watford will have less than 48 hours to recover from their away clash with league-leaders Newcastle United before facing QPR after the game was moved forward to accommodate Sky TV.

The Hornets make the 500-mile round trip to Tyneside on Saturday, December 5 and were scheduled to play local rivals QPR the following Tuesday, but the match has been moved forward to Monday, December 7 as it will be shown live on Sky Sports.

It is the second time this season a Watford home game has been rescheduled to assist Sky Sports, which will also show the Hornets clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Friday, October 23.

Good to see common sense prevailing once again!! I'd be tempted to ask sky sports to send a representative to make the trip to newcastle with our players, then ask him to train with the players on the sunday and monday before the game on tuesday.....i don't think they'd fancy it somehow...

Well done Sky!! What a complete bunch of retards. If they are looking for quality games then they should have realised that a knackered team still recovering from an almost 600 mile round trip will not be likely to show their best. Why didn't they schedule to show it at the originally published time? They would have been better off showing Newcastle v Watford on the Friday night or Saturday afternoon!

Can Watford ask for the Newcastle game to be played 24 hours earlier?

1. We need the cash. Desperately.
2. BOTH sides have the same amount of time to recover - HELLO! That's both sides. As in fair on both parties.

One final point, is using the term 'retard' acceptible? I'd say not actually and Hexham, your usage does you no credit whatsoever.

I see the WO have amended their story. So we have to put up with a 500 mile plus journey , with little recovery time for our players. Whereas QPR get plenty. Normally the teams who play on a Monday , don't play on a Saturday ( see the following week when QPR again play on a MOnday v WBA). Whilst the money will be nice , we could lose 3 points ...whats more important !!!! . If i'd been WAtford , I'd have told Sky to pick another game .....

James A - it's not about being PC, it's about common decency. Why is it not ok to use derogatory terms that relate to the colour of someones skin, but ok to use derogatory terms about a mental impairment?
.
VOR - Neither are terms that decent folk like you and I would consider using!
.
And about the scheduling of a football match? The poor things having to play twice in a week. Most of us work 8 hours a day 6 days a week AND play football on our day off.

I was relieved it wasn't the Newcastle away game being televised as I'd booked my (non flexible) flight up to Ant and Dec land way back in August (Phew). Then realised I have to go to a gig on Monday 7th Dec (100% unavoidable) so will miss my first home game in 12 years (****). In future Mr Sky match picker, please contact me to check if moving the game is OK. Email me on

I have to travel to Newcastle regularly. 50 minutes by plane from Stansted so distance is no big deal. We take Sky's money and this is what they pay us for. Besides, professional athletes should be capable of playing twice in 48 hours from time to time.

What is all the fuss about?
We play Forest at home on 26th December and away to Bristol City away on 28th. Time between kick-offs 51 hours. The QPR game kicks off nearly 59 hours after the Newcastle game. No-one complains at Christmas or Easter for that matter!
If we were playing in Moscow, it would be an issue, but Newcastle is only 5 hours away by coach, let alone by plane.
Sky pay a lot of money to televise games and this will help our club stay afloat.
People should live in the real world. I can't see Jimmy or Vince being upset by the decision.

Think of the positives...Amir Khan fight just announced in Newcastle on the Saturday evening. 3 points at the Toon, a great fight night, an evening out in one of the best party cities in the world 3 weeks before Christmas, and a massive hangover to get over. Wont be cheap, but could be brilliant!

Of course Watford FC could have refused the request. After all it will be money that they had not budgeted for.But at the end of the day everyone seems obsessed about money, which will still be allowed to dribble away from our Club. The Russos probably are not too worried, bearing in mind the large interest charges they are making on their loans to the Club.Remember Simpson? I said at the time he took over,"don't think he is a philanthropist" I sincerely hope I won't be making similar comments about the present Board.
