Signing from Rochdale continues recovery as Watford lose to Wycombe Wanderers

January signing Will Buckley played 71 minutes for Watford Reserves last night as he continues his recovery from injury but was unable to stop the Hornets from losing 2-0 to neighbours Wycombe Wanderers.

Watford fielded what was effectively the Under-18s plus Buckley, who has suffered with a thigh strain since arriving from Rochdale, and summer-signing Jure Travner, who is also yet to make his first team debut. Wycombe's line-up consisted of first team squad members Gareth Ainsworth, Lewis Hunt, Matt Bloomfield, Lewwis Spence and Lewis Montrose.

And it was Ainsworth, who once cost Wimbledon £2m, who gave Wanderers the lead in the 49th minute with a long-ranged effort after catching out Jonathan Bond after a poor kick from the young keeper.

The visitors made sure of the win with 15 minutes remaining when striker Dan Fitchett bundled the ball home from close range.

Watford: Bond; Yiadom, Oshodi (Angus 34), Thompson, Travner; Young, Brooks, Penny (Isaac 66), Mingoia; Massey, Buckley (C Smith 76). Subs not used: Bonham (gk), Warburton.

Wycombe Wanderers: Arnold; Hunt, Saku, Cox, Cobb (O'Regan); Ainsworth (Federico 71), Montrose, Bloomfield, Spence; Green (Harris 71), Fitchett. Subs not used: Brennan, Belcher.
