Watford’s top scorer Tom Cleverley is back in the starting line-up this afternoon as Watford aim to bounce back from three successive defeats against basement boys Peterborough United at Vicarage Road.

The on-loan Manchester United midfielder, who has missed those losses through suspension, replaces Jon Harley in the only change from Tuesday night’s 1-0 reverse against Swansea City for the second of three home games in the space of seven days for the Hornets.

The visitors, who are the only Championship side without an away win this season, make two changes from their mid-week 1-0 home success against Sheffield United, with Sergio Torres and Scott Griffiths coming in for calf-injury victim Lee Frecklington and Dominic Green, who drops to the bench.

The match has added signifance for one Posh player, striker Craig Mackail-Smith, who was born in Watford, attended St Michael’s Catholic High School and first made his name at St Albans City.

Watford: Loach; Mariappa, DeMerit, Taylor, Doyley; Cowie, Eustace, Lansbury, Cleverley; Graham, Helguson. Substitutes: McGinn, Jenkins, Harley, R Lee, Hoskins, Henderson, Hodson.

Peterborough United: Lewis, Morgan, Zakuani, Little, C Lee; Torres, Rowe, Griffiths, Dickinson; McLean, Mackail-Smith. Substitutes: McKeown, Day, Crook, Green, Simpson, Geohaghon, Reid.
