Will Buckley and Dale Bennett to miss pre-season friendly

Marvin Sordell looks set to partner Danny Graham in attack tonight as Watford end their Hertfordshire pre-season trips at Stevenage.

Will Buckley will miss the trip to the Lamex Stadium with a minor knock, while Dale Bennett has also been ruled out of the match against the League Two newcomers after picking up a toe injury in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Northampton Town. However, fellow defender Tom Aldred, who missed the game at Sixfields with a similar problem, is fit again and comes back into the Hornets squad.

Sordell will be favourite to get the nod over the likes of Liam Henderson to partner Graham up front after coming off the bench and scoring the equaliser against the Cobblers.

The Hornets have already faced Boreham Wood, St Albans City and Barnet this summer, but Malky Mackay will be seeking improvements after watching his side concede three disappointing goals before netting twice late on to salvage the draw.

The majority of the team are again expected to play the full 90 minutes as they continue to build up their fitness, with the start of the new season less than two weeks away, and the Hornets boss said: “They have to have another 80, 90 minutes fitness work because it’s all about now getting people up to speed in terms of having to play 90 minutes on the Friday night, then the following Tuesday night in the League Cup and the following Saturday etc.

“So, a, 90 minutes fitness but also, b, an improvement on the performances as well. We’ve got to look at improving the performances.”

Tonight’s opponents have been in good form during pre-season, particularly against two of the Hornets’ newly-promoted Championship rivals.

Following a 2-0 victory at Histon and a 1-1 draw at Chelmsford City, Stevenage held Norwich City to a goalless stalemate before beating Millwall 2-1 on Saturday.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.45pm and admission is £18 for adults, £15 concessions and £10 for Under-18s.

As it has been said many times, it will be another 2 or 3 years before we see the benefits of our academy so stop knocking it before it has had a chance to produce the goods.

£18 for a friendly at Stevenage, and £31 for ticket at Norwich!
I thought we were in a recession with reductions everywhere.
Not in football it seems, where all fans are taken as mugs!

Seems a few clubs are stating to "up" the prices this season. Stevenage £18 for this friendly , Norwich & Ipswich £31 for away fans , Doncaster & Leeds £28 & 29 respectively.
Norwich's £31 for a televised game !!!! on a Friday night . Thankfully the decision of whether to go to these games has been made...NOT AT THESE PRICES.

These prices are outrageous. I fancied Norwich away, but no way at that price. When will football wake up and get with the real world. Stevenage and Norwich bosses should be ashamed of themselves.

£18 for pre-season friendly???

When you consider the revenue streams open to Stevenage - little or no TV interest, limited shirt sales/merchandising oppertunities (no malaysian megastore for them!) how else do you expect them to make money other than from gate receipts? Live in the real world. Gate prices at most non-league grounds tend to be £10 - £15.

Stevenage arent a non league club tho....If people stopped going, which i believe they should at such ridiculous prices, then Championship games will be played in front of tiny crowds and club bosses will have to drop prices..Championship games will be costing 40-50 pounds in a few years time unless we do something about it and lets face it championship football and league 1 and 2 football is often very painful viewing anyway!!! We only do it out of habit and foolhardiness!! Time for a boycott!! Geoffrey!!

NO CHAMPIONSHIP OR LEAGUE 1 OR 2 MATCH SHOULD EVER COST MORE THAN 20 POUNDS!! EVER!!! Club bosses have to stop deciding how much to pay a player then expecting us to pay it!!! If we're paying players wages then WE should decide what theyre worth!!!! I'm sure i could get WFC's wage bill below 100 grand a year!!!!

Ooops! My bad! Of course they won the conferance, D'oh! Still though, my point stands - they do not have the revenue streams that clubs higher up the league have. Norwich on the other hand.....
