Watford coach Martyn Pert reunites with Aidy Boothroyd at Coventry City

Watford’s head of conditioning Martyn Pert has left the Hornets to become Aidy Boothroyd’s assistant manager at Coventry City.

Pert worked under Boothroyd at Watford before joining Fulham and was brought back to Vicarage Road by Malky Mackay in the summer of 2009, when Mackay described him as “one of the most talented people in his field in the country.”

Boothroyd said: "This is a very good appointment for us and we are delighted to have Martyn on board.

"He is a qualified coach and very highly thought of in the world of sports science.

"He is also a very organised professional who will work well with the team here, both on and off the field and brings new qualities to Coventry City."

Former Watford player and manager Steve Harrison will remain at Coventry as a coach.

We understand Watford have appointed sports scientist Matt Springham as their new strength and conditioning coach at the beginning of September.

I see that Boofers is also set to re-sign the infamous Marlon King again.
He is assembling a strong ex-Watford group of people, some good, some not so good. I think he will do will this season, and a good outside bet for the play-offs.

This could be a bummer as I understand Pert is very highly regarded. Lets hope Springham is a worthy replacement as our strength and conditioning has got us out of trouble in the past when maybe our raw skill has not been up to the mark.

Why would Pert take a step down in his career?
Maybe he has family in the coventry area.
Still, you would think that he would want to stay at the club that will be playing in the top division next year.

Was at Colchester yesterday watching England under 21's.....talking to some Colchester supporters who said they were glad to see Boothroyd go. Whilst they started brightly , the style of football was awful at the end.

Many of the posters on this site have been supportive of MM but indicated that his assistant should be changed.

Please telll me Why didn't someone so highly regarded as Martyn Pert get the chance as Malkys assistant instead of Dyche?

Probably similar reason why many move to another employee...money. Then there's the compensation to look forward to when you are 'moved' on! Old habits die hard.

Well Boothers you are very welcome to take our returning "star" in the January window. We would be very happy with just 10% of what you originally paid for him!

We could rely on "fatboy" Kerslake to take the warm ups .... he might shed a few pounds in the process !!

I can see why Pert has gone ! Though I question whether he is really a coach, as opposed to a briliant fitness / conditioning expert. Last season he was No 2 to Kerslake at the reserve games. With Mcbride coming in to run the Academy .... Jock McBride also seems to be Kerslakes No 2 at reserve games .... so it's no wonder Pert has gone if he really wants to aspire to manage and is not being given a chance. Pity he wasn't given the chance to do a job share with Dyche!!!

Pert could have done the Asst Manager role while Dyche threatens the 4th Official !! Rock and Roll.....

Can't wait to see who will do the warm up on Saturday.... by the way what happened to big Monty !!

Did we try to keep Pert, or did we compensation for him? Have we had to pay for Springham or did we get him for free?

It will be interesting to see what effect this will have on the team and the fitness throughout the season.

I was glad to read that Steve Harrison is still involved in football as I thought he had to retire through ill health.

Yes, he played well for us and was a full glass kinda guy.
