Division Two

Bottom-of-the-table ER’s terrible run of defeats ended with only their second win of the season, a surprise 6-1 victory over Brookside.

An even first half on Sunday saw ER go ahead just before the break when a corner was sliced into his own net by a defender.

That goal seemed to spur them on and James Pimlott used his pace to beat the offside trap and finished well on three occasions, while Darragh Cawley slotted home his first following a great cross from Craig Valentine and followed this up minutes later with an easy tap-in. Brookside pulled a goal back near the end.

Riverside Athletic took advantage of MK Ginder Reserves’ day off to overtake them at the top of the table on goal difference after hammering Aquis 8-0.

Richard Akinlawon gave Riverside the perfect start after just three minutes - and as he would go on to complete a hat-trick - Matt Lewis scored a brace, with the other goals coming from Louis Whitfield, Gary Manning and Robert Mair.

The mid-table game between Cassiobury United and Rickmansworth Athletic ended in a 2-2 draw.

Rickmansworth took a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to two own goals, but a strike from Dan Treadwell midway through the second period pulled one back and a penalty in the last minute from Ross Fowler sealed the point for United.

Pavilion Rangers enjoyed a 2-0 win over the side directly above them, Wood Rangers, thanks to goals from Ryan Walsh and Peter Challis.

MK Ginder need just a point from their game with second-bottom Loop Construction on Sunday to seal their first title after a 4-1 win over Colne Valley left them on the brink.

Luis Poituk put Ginder ahead early on and Valley failed to take advantage of controlling the game, finding themselves two down following a goal from Dan Burke.

Chris Day pulled one back after the break and again they looked to get back into the contest before two late efforts from Poituk and Ryan Haley’s long-range strike sealed the win.

Headstone Athletic did all they could to keep up the chase of Ginder by defeating Colne Valley Blues 2-1.

Terry Flaherty and Anthony Ball scored twice in ten first-half minutes before Andy Bisley pulled a goal back after the interval for the Blues.

Radlett Road made hard work of their 4-1 win over Colne Valley Royals, considering they scored 11 against the same team a week earlier.

Lee Taylor gave Radlett an early lead but the Royals levelled thanks to Reza Hotee’s penalty.

Colne worked hard in the second half and looked like gaining a point until their opponents scored three in the final 15 minutes to win the game. Taylor netted twice more, including a late penalty, to complete his hat-trick and Harry Jones scored the other.

Kings Langley lost vital ground at the top of the table as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Reed Rangers, who are still not out of the title race themselves.

Steve Tearle, Darren Tearle and Ross Coniam scored the goals, but Langley’s season may rest on Sunday’s game when they face Radlett.

Tudor Arms are still in second spot after they had a straightforward 5-0 win over Headstone Athletic Reserves.

FC Swan gained a 2-1 win over Watford Labour Club, despite having only nine men.

Tim Hatton and Martin Clarke scored for Swan, with Martin Bedford replying.

Rovers enjoyed a 6-2 victory over bottom-placed Roundbush.

The victors bounced back after letting a goal in after just 15 seconds, turning the game around by scoring three times in the first half through Paul Sommerfelt and two-goal Darren Insley.

Insley completed his treble after the restart and Robbie Edgar and Chris Phillips also netted before Bush’s late second.
