Despite having only two training sessions under their belt Old Merchant Taylor’s newly formed Under-15s side put on a good display in their 10-20 home defeat to Tabard Under-15s.
With some very new combinations, the new side started a tentatively and found themselves 5-0 down early on against Tabard, who are riding high in Herts/Middlesex Third Division.
However, the tacking was strong and it was clear that the front five would create a very powerful platform. OMTs soon levelled though as good work by the forwards created space for Will Reubin to score an unconverted try. Tabard hit back shortly before half time to go into the interval with a 10-5 lead.
In the second half, changes were made to ensure everyone played their part in the team’s first match.
Tabard quickly established their dominance with two quick unconverted tries but the Rams were playing with greater confidence.
The home side kept up the pressure to eventually force a score. While the game ended in a 20-10 loss OMTs showed plenty of promise in their inaugural contest.
