Watford Half Marathon cancelled due to snow

The Watford Half Marathon was cancelled for the first time yesterday due to the snow.

Organisers decided on Saturday night that it would be too dangerous to hold the race and reluctantly had to cancel this year's event.

Organiser Richard Parles, wo confirmed it will not be rearranged this year, said: "We put an announcement on our website and sent out texts to all the runners. Obviously some people had already travelled down and it cost them a fair bit of money but there was nothing we could do about it.

"Unbelievably it's never been cancelled before despite the time of year it's held. We sailed close to the wind a couple of times but it has never been called off.

"It's extremely disappointing because a lot of people put so much hard work into it."
