WATFORD's activity in the transfer window will be minimal, according to Aidy Boothroyd.

Despite the manager stating his desire to recruit a left-back, a left-sided winger and a holding midfielder, the Hornets are yet to make their move in the market and Boothroyd has just over two weeks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.

Watford did make Lionel Ainsworth's move from Hereford permanent but he did not even make the 16 at Deepdale.

"I'm not going to get all excited just because it is January," said Boothroyd who has limited funds at his disposal.

"I have learnt my lessons from the past and I'm going to be very cautious and very calm. If I bring someone in it will be to improve the team. Those that I am after are wanted by a lot of other teams, too.

"It's only a couple we need - it's not going to be wholesale changes. Just because other teams in the division spend some money it doesn't mean that Watford have to, quite the opposite."
