Chesney's delight at milestone
Kris Chesney
Kris Chesney

Kris Chesney will join the exclusive band of players who have made the most Premiership appearances if he is selected for Saracens' clash with Sale Sharks on Sunday.

The no-nonsense back row powerhouse and sometime lock has made 192 top flight appearances and will draw level with leaders Neal Hatley - now London Irish Academy Manager and Wasps lock Simon Shaw, who plays in England's Six Nations match with Scotland on Saturday, if he is included in the matchday 22.

Chesney is in his 12th season with the Men in Black and made his 300th appearance for the club at Biarritz last November.

His latest milestone left him gushing with pride.

"I'm extremely proud, it's a great honour and surprise that I'm up there," said Chesney, who celebrated his 34th birthday on Sunday.

"I celebrated playing over 300 game for Saracens earlier this season, which is a hell of a lot. So this is also another massive achievement for me.

"Neal Hatley and Simon Shaw are great players and it's a privilege to be up there with them at the top. But there is a few players on my coat tails (including Chesney's team-mate Hugh Vyvyan with 180 Premiership appearances).

"My ultimate goal is to play as many games as I can for Saracens this season and next. I'll just keen on trucking as I love playing rugby and don't really know what I'd do without it."

For more from Chesney, see this Friday's Watford Observer.
