Cardiff beckons for Sorrell

Kevin Sorrell is almost certain to renew his midfield partnership with Andy Farrell in Saturday's cup clash with the Ospreys after making his comeback from injury for the Saracens second string last night.

The club veteran played an hour of the A team's 40-17 victory over Bristol at Old Albanians RFC and looked lively and threatening. It was his first action since picking up an ankle injury in Sarries' Heineken Cup win over Glasgow in January.

The outside centre is certain to start alongside Andy Farrell, who made his own return from injury at Leicester Tigers, in Saturday's EDF Energy Cup semi final at the Millennium Stadium.

The experience and fluidity both centres bring to Saracens is invaluable and having them back together will be a godsend for coach Alan Gaffney, who has been forced to deploy backline players Francisco Leonelli and Dan Scarbrough at 13 during Sorrell's lay-off.

Several other players have also put themselves in contention for the big game after playing their part last night.

Leonelli, prop Kevin Yates, back row Paul Gustard, and hooker Matt Cairns all crossed the line while young centre Mike Stanley grabbed a brace. Fly half Gordon Ross kicked five conversions.
