Talented goalkeeper Arie Ammann has decided to return to the USA in the summer to study for a university degree rather than pursue a professional contract with Watford.
Ammann is a second-year scholar with the Hornets but the 18-year-old has already opted to attend Penn State University in the coming years rather than wait until the summer to see if he would be offered a pro deal.
The youngster, who joined 18 months ago from DC United, is the son of former Charlton Athletic keeper Mike Ammann and will finish his two-year scholarship before heading back to the States.
A goalkeeper’s career usually lasts several years longer than most outfield players and Ammann has decided to secure a degree whilst still developing as a player as part of the university’s team, who currently play more regularly than the Hornets’ development side.
