Watford's young striker Michael Folivi was once again the scoresheet on Saturday as he helped the Hornets’ Under-18s complete a 2-1 victory over Stevenage in Merit League One.

It took just four minutes for the Golden Boys to make the breakthrough at London Colney.

Folivi delivered a free-kick into the Stevenage penalty area which wasn’t cleared and it allowed Dennon Lewis the chance to fire the ball across goal and Ogo Obi tapped home from close range.

The visitors came close to an equaliser but a combination of Andrew Eleftheriou and Nathan Gartside denied them a leveller.

The Hornets had chances to add to their lead through Brandon Mason, Kunle Otudeko and Folivi but they went into half time with a one-goal advantage.

Watford were made to pay for those missed chances nine minutes after the restart when Ryan Johnson headed Stevenage level from a corner.

The Hornets responded. Lewis fired into the side netting and Obi directed an Eleftheriou cross over the bar.

The Golden Boys did go in front when excellent footwork from Lewis allowed him to escape from two defenders before his pass was curled into the top corner by the reliable Folivi.

Gartside then pulled off three terrific saves in the dying moments to ensure his side victory.

Watford Under-18: Gartside; Eleftheriou, Stevens, Rowan, Mason (Young, 45); Charles, Makaka (Cook, 62); Otudeko, Folivi, Lewis; Obi.
