Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently level at 1-1 after Matej Vydra cancelled out Benik Afobe’s goal.

If the game does end all-square then it would be the Golden Boys’ first draw in 23 matches in all competitions.

The Hornets made two changes to their starting XI as Juan Carlos Paredes and Daniel Tozser replaced Marco Motta and Daniel Pudil.

Odion Ighalo was not fit enough to feature and whilst Joel Ekstrand travelled with the squad, like Lloyd Doyley he didn’t make the final 18-man squad, having struggled with a hamstring issue this week.

The Golden Boys started in a 4-4-2 diamond formation, with Tozser in the holding role and Almen Abdi at the attacking tip.

The visitors moved the ball around well in the early minutes however they suffered a set-back when Abdi was forced off injured in just the 12th minute.

And two minutes later they were dealt another blow when a diagonal ball into the penalty area was not cut out and Afobe was able to slot underneath Heurelho Gomes from a relatively tight angle.

Watford struggled to penetrate Wolves’ defence and on a couple of occasions wasted good chances to cross into the box.

But like at Leeds United last week the link-up play between Troy Deeney and Vydra provided the resolution. Vydra laid the ball off to his partner and then set off on his run. Deeney’s lofted pass was ideal and Vydra controlled well before hitting the dropping ball early and under Tomasz Kuszczak from 18 yards to make it 1-1.

Wolves were a threat in the final third and sent in several dangerous crosses.

They almost regained the lead when a terrible touch from Gabriele Angella allowed James Henry to run through and pick out Afobe at the far post but his close-range header was too near to Gomes and he palmed the ball over the bar.

The Golden Boys’ main threat was the constant runs of Vydra and Ben Watson slipped him through shortly before the break but he was always unlikely to trouble former Hornet Kuszczak due to the angle and with the ball behind him.
