West Brom vs Watford

  • Kick off: 3:00pm Sat 31 Oct 09
  • Referee: Nigel Miller
  • Venue: The Hawthorns
Final score:
West Bromwich Albion 5 - 0 Watford

whistle icon 94:00: Final whistle Watford are comfortably beaten by West Brom. The Hornets kept going until the end but goal early in second half finished them off

93:00: Ellington forced Carson into a goos save with a header from a Cleverley cross

substitution 85:00: Substitution Scott Severin for Eustace

85:00: Filipe Teixeira was allowed too much space on the left and the winger burst through and fired a shot from a tight angle across goal and narrowly wide

81:00: Helguson beat Carson in the air but he couldn't direct his header goalwards and it was cleared

71:00: Ellington has been getting abuse all through warming up but it looked like he would get his own back when he controlled Helguson's cross and shot but it was saved by Carson

Goal icon 68:00: Goal! This is now a real thumping. A long ball is held up by Moore, Cathcart was unable to clear probably and Cox's shot from 25 yards beat Loach

Goal icon 64:00: Goal! What a stunning effort from Gianni Zuiverloon. The right back beat his man in the box and then fired in a low shot across Loach and into the far corner. Just moments before, West Brom should have scored but they seemed reluctant to shoot and when they did, it was blocked

substitution 63:00: Substitution Brunt for Thomas and Ellington for Graham

61:00: Lansbury did well to get a volley on goal but it was straight at Carson

substitution 52:00: Substitution Heidar Helguson has come on for Cowie. Can he have the same influence as he did against Leicester City?

50:00: Cleverley showed good feet to create space to shoot from the edge of the area but it just went wide

Goal icon 49:00: Goal! West Brom are 3-0 up now. Loach made a super save to deny Moore but then he gathered the ball again and from around 12 yards out, smashed the ball into the far corner.

48:00: Cox should have also scored but he headed over from ten yards out

48:00: Graham should have scored. Harley pushed Gianni Zuiverloon off the ball and had four players to choose from and picked out Graham at the back post but he missed from four yards

47:00: Cox tried an ambitious chip but it was never going to trouble Loach

45:00: Second half has begun and West Brom won a corner immediately but Watford scrambled it clear

whistle icon 45:00: Half time Half time and Watford may feel that they should have scored at least one and that West Brom's goals could have been prevented. In answer to your question LDR862, it looks a penalty to be honest. Mariappa may have got the tiniest touch on the ball as it brushed his knee but it did look a penalty.

42:00: Once again, sorry about the lack of uploads. We are suffering problems with our internet connection. To round up some of the action I have missed. Danny Graham has had a couple of efforts from distance go wide and over. Lansbury also fired over from the edge of the box and Mariappa had a header go over. Watford have looked the more dangerous going forward and West Brom have not really created much, although some of their build up play has been superb and Simon Cox looks some player.

yellow card 33:00: Yellow card Luke Moore is booked after diving in the box when he tried to round Loach.

says...

Was it a blatant penalty ? Seems like the refs like giving them against us and none for us this season !!

Goal icon 18:00: Goal! Adrian Mariappa brought down Moore in the box and then Dorrans put the ball past Loach to make it 2-0

12:00: We apologise for the lack of updates. We are suffering some technical problems

Goal icon -115:00: Goal! West Brom open the scoring when Dorrans whipped in an inswinging free kick and Cathcart did not even jump with Olsson, leaving the centre back with an easy header inside the six yard box

yellow card -115:00: Yellow card Lee Hodson is booked for bringing down Jara.

-120:00: Heidar Helguson and Mat Sadler return to the Watford squad for this afternoon's trip to promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion. Helguson has missed the Hornets last six games with a calf injury but he returns to the bench at the Hawthorns, as does Sadler. The full back has not played for Watford since Boxing Day last year and has not even made the bench for most of this season. There is only one change to the starting XI which beat Sheffield Wednesday last week, with John Eustace coming in for the injured Ross Jenkins. Big summer signing Simon Cox starts up front for West Brom, who also welcome back Chris Brunt and Roman Bednar to the bench following injury. West Brom: Carson; Zuiverloon, Mattock, Olsson, Meite; Thomas, Dorrans, Jara, Teixeira; Moore, Cox. Subs: Kiely, Bednar, Brunt, Martis,Wood, Koren, Cech. Watford: Loach; Hodson, Cathcart, Mariappa, Doyley; Cleverley, Eustace, Lansbury, Harley; Cowie, Graham. Subs: Bond, Sadler, Severin, Bryan, Henderson, Helguson, Ellington.
