Watford won't receive more money from Portsmouth over Mike Williamson's Newcastle United switch

Watford will not receive any money from Portsmouth from the sell-on clause agreed when Mike Williamson left the Hornets in the summer.

The Hornets secured a 30 per cent sell-on clause when Williamson moved to Portsmouth for £2m in August and Hornets fans had hoped the centre back’s switch to Newcastle United last week would result in a cash windfall for the Hertfordshire club.

Initially Williamson’s move was on an emergency loan so he could play in last week’s victory over Crystal Palace.

But despite that soon being made permanent, we understand Watford will not receive any money from the sale as the sell-on fee was based on profit Portsmouth would make on Williamson’s transfer and the undisclosed fee agreed with Newcastle was less than £2m paid to the Hornets.

The Premier league, better make sure we get all the money we are due for the original sale then! and since they will probably pull the money from the sale to pay other league clubs owed, Portsmotuh will end up seeing very liitle of the cash they sold him for, 2 mil for a player they never used and got nothing for selling - not a great deal on pompey's part!

Let’s make sure he gets the abuse he deserves when he comes back to the Vic.

Couldn't understand why people were saying we get 30% of any sell on. Can't see anyone signing that type of contract. Makes sense 30% of any profit on sale which is what I said originally but presumed those that said no knew better but obviously not. :)
Still don't understand how it is allowed to sell a player and not pay off previous club debts immediately.

I'm happy we got Martin Taylor instead. Although we've only seen him once, he does have a confidence with the ball at his feet and considering he hasn't played a first team game since last summer, I think he'll do alright. Marriappa gave us a lot more width playing on the right as well getting in some decent crosses and in the right place to take the long throw ins.

God, and to think how much Mr Russo harped on about the amazing sell on fee he managed to secure

Doesn't seem so great in reality does it.

Thats the end of that matter then....has all the Tommy Smith money been paid to us yet? Can we draw a line under this pompey issue or not?!?

No that is not the end of the matter as I understand that there is one final payment to be made in the summer. The exact details of the staged payments have not been released because it is deemed a commercially sensitive arrangement. The only thing we can say is Pompey are up to date with their payments as per the agreed contract.
